I don’t know about y’all, but I am NOT a morning person. And by I’m not a morning person, I mean don’t even speak to me unless I’ve had at least three cups of coffee. I’m essentially Grumpy Cat when I wake up. I can’t help it, okay? I’m a night owl. I don’t even need a lot of sleep, but mornings and I are not friends. I’ve since learned how to deal with this and am doing just fine now.
But mornings are rough for a lot of people, not just the overly-caffeinated. Getting up for school can be particularly difficult. When I was in high school, I would get up at around 5:30 because I had to work my way through Atlanta rush hour to get to school. Talk about tough. I’m all about saving time, and saving time in the mornings is really important whether you’re just trying to have a good morning or want to sleep for an extra 30 minutes.
So here are some helpful things you can do to make getting up for school super easy!
Set Coffee To Start Brewing 30 Minutes Before You Wake Up
If you drink coffee, even smelling it before you wake up can help you get up and moving. I set mine to brew 30 minutes before my alarm goes off so my brain knows that my coffee is waiting.
Have A Ready-To-Go Breakfast
Make a smoothie kit ready to pop in the blender. Prepare some overnight oats that you can grab out of the fridge on your way out the door. Not all of us have time for full breakfasts so grab something on the go.
Pick Out Your Clothes At Night
Deciding on an outfit in the morning is stressful. Pick out what you're wearing the night before so it's ready to go in the morning.
Do Your Hair Before Bed
If your hair takes a while to dry or style, do it the night before. When you go to bed, pull it up in a high and loose ponytail or bun to preserve the style.
Set Your Alarm Right
Your alarm clock can really affect how you wake up. Try using an app like Sleepcycle which helps wake you up progressively instead of jolting you in the morning. Also, try putting your alarm clock on the opposite side of your room so you have to get up to turn it off.
Shower At Night
This will save you tons of time in the morning. If you need to do a quick rinse in the AM, go for it. But take care of shaving and washing your hair before bed.
Lock Down A Quick Makeup Routine
I have my makeup routine down to 7 minutes. On a daily basis my routine is as follows: moisturizer, primer, foundation, powder, blush, eyeliner, mascara. Go light during the day!
