No matter how tough you are, everyone’s afraid of something. Maybe even multiple things. We live in a pretty scary world, and there’s a lot to be afraid of from serious things to silly things. You’ve got your common phobias like fear of heights, bugs and whatever’s under the bed.
There are fears that we’re totally embarrassed to admit, but we shouldn’t be! It’s normal to have fears and no one should make you feel weird about them (like everyone who makes me feel crazy for being afraid of fish). I asked the rest of the Gurl staff about some of their fears, and we’re all afraid of similar things! So I’m going to share them with you because maybe you have the same fears.
Here are some embarrassing fears you might have that are actually normal:
I'm constantly paranoid about being late to things. I am so afraid of being late that I will arrive 30 minutes early. Also, being late in the sense of missing your period. TERRIFYING.
Not Knowing People At A Party
If you're going to a party where you only know a few people, it can be really scary. What if your friend bails and you don't know anyone?
At 23, I'm still afraid of the dark. It's creepy. I think everyone is a little afraid of the dark, especially if you're hearing noises late at night.
True fact: I hate to cuddle but don't like sleeping alone. Who does, really? Some of the other staffers felt the same way. Totally normal to not want to sleep alone.
Being Alone Forever
Don't ever be embarrassed by this thought because it's actually a rational fear. When I was younger I thought I was going to end up alone. If you're single, you can get stuck in a FOREVER ALONE spiral, which is really scary.
Who doesn't have FOMO? You're always concerned that your friends are hanging out without you. Or that you're not getting invited to anything. Or that you just have no friends.
Even if you're in the healthiest of relationships, there can be a looming fear of getting dumped. Just don't express it to your boo because if you're always like "You're going to break up with me" then they might actually do it.
Jess is completely terrified of spiders. I also do not like them. (I couldn't even look up a picture of a real spider!) What creature needs eight legs?! Why do they just hang out in the corner of your ceiling? Everyone should be afraid of spiders. Everyone.
Getting Cheated On
You might trust your boyfriend or girlfriend 100% but still have a fear that they're cheating on you. I think this is a really common fear with people in relationships.
Walking alone at night, walking to your car alone, walking home alone in broad daylight. There are too many "what ifs" for this to not be scary.
