When I was younger, I didn’t really pay attention to the overly sexual messages in Disney movies because that kind of stuff didn’t really register with me. However, now that I’m older and write about sex and relationships for a living, these are things I think about. We’ve had a lot of questions about sex education in mythical worlds, but I was thinking about how sex is really prevalent in Disney movies but it’s not ever talked about.
This week, we’re exploring sex education in Aladdin’s world of Agraba. This place is a mess as it is with an evil and power-hungry villain and a lot of corruption. And Aladdin has to lie about who he is to get the girl! All of that aside, we have questions about sex ed in Agraba because judging by the chemistry between Aladdin and Jasmine, they definitely need it.
Can Jasmine even get birth control? Can you wish to not get pregnant for a certain amount of years, like a genie IUD?
How Does Sex Work On A Magic Carpet?
I'm all for sex in interesting places, but I feel like this is very dangerous and not courteous at all to the carpet.
How are we dealing with STDs here? Where do you get tested? Agraba seems like a small town that talks a lot so it's not like you can head down to the village doctor. Can you wish away STDs? Can you wish to never get them at all?
Where Do Genies Come From?
But really. Which came first, the genie or the lamp?
Seriously, can you just pop down to the market and pick up some condoms? Or are they not easily available? Do they even exist? If not, that seems very unsafe.
Can you have sex with a genie? Can genies breed other genies? If you have sex with a genie and wish for something mid-sex, does the wish count?
It doesn't seem safe to be hanging out with tigers in general, but I feel like it's less safe if you're on your period. Also, similar to our question about condoms, where are we getting tampons and pads?
Do you have any questions about sex ed in Agraba? Do you have any answers? What other worlds are you curious about? Tell us in the comments!
