I write a lot about sex and hooking up here – I mean, obviously, this is Gurl.com. But I also recognize that while a lot of you are out there having sex and hooking up, there are probably just as many of you who are either waiting to do the deed for religious reasons or, for some reason or another, it just hasn’t happened yet. And guess what? It’s totally and completely fine to wait to have sex.
There are a lot of comments on the site and questions that are sent in from you girls saying that you’re embarrassed that you haven’t had sex yet by a certain age. Honestly, that is something you should never feel embarrassed about. Having sex is a big deal and you should do it when you’re ready or when the time is right. You should never pressure yourself into having sex if you don’t want to. So, here are 8 reasons why it’s okay to wait to have sex… or do any other kind of hooking up.
It Might Just Mean You're Not Ready YetIf you're still a virgin because you just don't feel ready to take that step yet... that's fine! You should have sex when you feel comfortable having sex, not when you think you should have sex. You know what I mean? Everyone feels ready for this moment in their lives at different times. For some girls, it's at a young age. For other girls, it's much older. Either way, you should sex when YOU feel ready. That's the only reason you need! Source: ShutterStock
It Should Happen When The Time Is RightMaybe you haven't hooked up yet because, well, it just hasn't happened. For whatever reason, you either haven't met someone you want to do it with (even if you want to do it) or it just never worked out the way you wanted it to. As corny as it sounds, though, it's good to wait until the time is right. You may get impatient waiting, but when it happens, it will be worth it. Source: ShutterStock
It Will Be More IntimateI can't this for sure, because obviously everyone has different experiences, but in general, things will be more intimate if you wait longer for sex. That's because you're probably waiting for the right person and the right moment - you're actively trying to make it special. That's not to say that only people who wait have intimate sex or that everyone who waits has intimate sex - but the act of waiting generally makes it feel a little more special for you. It Could Mean You're Sticking To Your BeliefsMaybe you're really religious and that's why you're waiting to have sex. Maybe you're even waiting until after marriage to do it. If you really believe in this religion and this is what you want to do, waiting to have sex means sticking to your beliefs - and that is always an awesome feeling. Source: ShutterStock
You'll Probably Feel Pretty Proud Of YourselfIf you're waiting for religious reasons, you're definitely going to feel proud of yourself for sticking this out through all the temptations out there. In this day and age, it's hard to say that you're waiting until after marriage to have sex - if you can do it, good for you! Source: ShutterStock
You Don't Need To Do It Just Because Everyone Else Is Doing ItMaybe you're just waiting to have sex because you're waiting for the right person. If that's the case, keep on waiting until you meet that person. Despite the fact that you might feel like all of your friends are doing it or everyone you know is doing it, that doesn't mean you have to do it. It's completely fine to wait until you meet someone you truly care about to share that moment with. Source: ShutterStock

It's Guaranteed To Be A Moment You'll RememberYour first time in general, even if you haven't waited, is a big moment that you'll probably always remember.
