I can’t remember the last time I had just a regular manicure with only one color. For the past few years I’ve been rocking a different colored ring finger nail, and recently I’ve been painting two nails different colors. Nails are tiny little canvases! It’s the perfect place for you to spice up your look without going overboard.
Right now, I’m really loving colors that are in the same family like mixing dark and light blue or light and neon pink. I’ve also been super into nail art lately, just like the rest of the world. I mean, nail art is so cute! You really can’t go wrong. I like to do nail art on one or two nails to add a little something to my manicure.
Today I’m going to show you how to make little hearts on your nails! Click through for the foolproof guide:
You Need: Base Coat
Always use a base coat when painting your nails to protect them and to help your polish last longer.
You Need: Base Color
When I'm doing nail art, I like to use a lighter color. This is Skull and Glossbones by OPI.
You Need: Accent Color
This is where you get to have fun! You can use something bright, dark, metallic, whatever! You just want to make sure it stands out against your light polish. This is OPI Siberian Nights, but I opted for Essie Chinchilly for my art.
You Need: Top Coat
To seal the deal and prevent chipping!
You Need: An Art Tool
This is a baby paint brush, but I'm using the end and not the brush part. You can use a toothpick or mechanical pencil as well.
Paint Your Base
Shape your nails to your liking. Paint on your base coat and let it dry.
Then paint on two coats of your base color. Make sure your nails dry completely before adding anything else.
Use The End
Pour a little polish onto a surface so it's easier to work with.
Add Two Dots
Make two small dots with the darker color using your tool of choice. The dots should be heavy with polish.
Using your tool, pull the excess polish into a downward diagonal on each side until they connect to make a heart.
I used the post of a broken earring to create smaller hearts. Add them wherever you like!
I wanted to keep my hearts subtle so I did a large one on my ring finger, a tiny one on my pointer finger and another on my thumb.
These would be so cute in red, pink or even gold! Play around with colors and various sizes.
