I am going on vacation in a week and I just realized that I’ll be getting my period right in the middle of it! Is there any way to skip my period or delay it if I’m not on birth control pills?
Bad news, girl: I don’t think you’ll be able to skip your period for this vacation. It would be a different story if you were taking birth control pills – as we explained here, skipping your period is easy if you’re on the pill. But if you’re not, it’s impossible to control your body in that way.
Unfortunately, I can’t even tell you to start taking birth control pills now – one, it’s way too soon before your vacation to do anything and two, you shouldn’t skip your period the first month you’re on the pill. So I’m afraid I don’t really have a solution here for you. It looks like you’re going to have to deal with your period happening during your vacation.
But, hey, things could be worse! I know getting your period is annoying, but it’s definitely not the end of the world and it really shouldn’t stop you from doing anything you want to do. If you’re going to be at the beach or pool, make sure you bring tampons to wear so that you can go swimming. If you’re worried about dealing with bloating, drink a lot of water, avoid salty foods and try foods and drinks that will reduce it, like yogurt, ginger, pineapple, peppermint tea or parsley. If you don’t want to deal with cramps, bring along Tylenol and a heating pad. And lastly, if you’re worried about not being able to hook up, don’t be – it’s perfectly fine to have sex while on your period, if you’re comfortable with that.
If you want to do this in the future, just keep in mind that you have to be on birth control pills in order to control your period in any way. But I think you’ll still have a great vacation anyway!
