Some days my hair is really curly and other days it decides to be wavy. It has a mind of its own. But when it’s wavy, I can make it do that whole beach wave thing that everyone’s into. You know when you go to the beach and you get out of the water and your hair is just all perfect and mermaid-esque? It’s one of the greatest feelings!
You can mimic that at home though without all the sand. After all these years, I’m pretty pro at creating the mermaid look. The great thing about this hairstyle is that it lasts for a few days, and you can get super mermaidy and throw a braid or two in it.

You Need: Smoothing Lotion
I've been loving this kind from Bang Style lately, but any kind of smoothing serum will do!
You Need: Salt Spray
I make my own by mixing coconut oil, sea salt and water in an empty spray bottle. A lot of brands have salt spray now but I highly recommend Bumble & Bumble and Not Your Mother's salt sprays.
You Need: Shine Serum
I use this Garnier Fructis spray. This is just a nice finishing touch if your hair tends to frizz like mine!
Start With Wet Hair
Wash and lightly towel dry. Your hair should still be pretty wet. Apply your smoothing lotion during this step.
Twist Hair Up
Smooth your hair into a ponytail and then twist your hair like so.
Put It In A Bun And Go To Bed
You'll then wrap your twisted hair into a bun. It should look kinda like this. Now go to sleep!
Wake Up And Take It Out
Wake up, have some breakfast, do your makeup, brush your teeth. Your hair should be the last thing you do because you want it to be in that bun for a while. Take it out when you're ready.
Spray In Some Salt Spray
Be generous with it!
Flip Your Head Over
Your going to slightly scrunch. You're not going like '90s crunchy curls style, but you do want to scrunch up your waves a bit.
Add Some Shine & You're Good To Go
Spray in some shine spray where you need it, and you're all done! The front of my hair has a lot of layers so it gets a bit curly.
See? Mermaid!
Basically people can start calling you Ariel.

Ok i did this and my hair never dried. Do i have to blow dry the bun or something cuz its been over 24 hours lol! and its still wet :O
Your hair probably holds a lot of moisture, which is great! My hair tends to stay a bit damp from when I take it out of the bun until around lunchtime. Everyone’s hair is different! I’d recommend letting your hair air dry a bit before putting it in the bun so it dries a little faster in the morning! Hope this helps
