After four long years of waiting, the Star Trek sequel hit theaters this weekend. You might be a total Trekkie or you may just be there to see Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana being the smoking hot people that they are. I’m not a Trekkie but I have always enjoyed watching Star Trek episodes from the original series. I’m not sure if I’m genuinely interested in the plot or just fascinated by the slight campiness of it all, but one thing is certain: The costumes were fantastic.
Star Trek fashion is all about minimalism: straight edges, no frills, no nonsense and very geometrical. In fact there’s a bit of a mod flavor to it all, which makes sense because the original series was filmed in the ’60s. If you want to put a modern spin on a simultaneously vintage and futuristic look, check out this round-up of Star Trek inspired clothes and accessories.
Going On Contour Dress
Sure, pink wasn't really a color that was worn on the Starship Enterprise, but who honestly (HONESTLY) doesn't love pink at least a little bit? Buy it at Modcloth at $57.99Cotton Spandex Jersey Long Sleeve Mini Dress
Simple and super wearable, this form fitting mini dress is similar to what you'll see many of the Star Trek leading ladies wearing aboard Starship Enterprise.Buy it at American Apparel for $44Mango Metal Edges Cuff Bangle
Space sorta scares me. It's just way too big and way too many things going on that I don't understand. But Saturn has always been a pretty dope looking planet, and this bracelet reminds me of Saturn's rings. In conclusion this bracelet looks pretty dope.Buy it at ASOS for $16.97Shiny Late Night Mini Skirt
Shiny and metalic just feels spacey, doesn't it? This shiny silver mini skirt can be dressed up or dressed down. Maybe with a Star Trek tee? Buy it at American Apparel for $32Black/white asymmetric clutch
I love the sharp, geometric edge of this two tone clutch. The shiny metal accent is just asking for some lens flare to reflect off of it (Into Darkness director J.J. Abrams is a little obsessed with lens flare; remember to bring sunglasses to the theater).Buy it at Dorothy Perkins for $27Outshine Collar Necklace
Phasers set to awesome (sorry, I couldn't help it) with this sunshine yellow necklace.Buy it at Nasty Gal for $44Coach Tour Dress in Spearmint
This green asymmetrical dress is great for a polished up look. With a cute bob you'll look like you walked out of the original 60s Star Trek set.Buy it at Mod Cloth for $47.99Colorblock Belt
Phasers set to awesome with this gold and black belt. Very similar to the standard Star Trek uniform belt, but with a little more flare.Buy it at H&M for $17.95Clear Metallic Pumps
Something about transparent apparel also feels futuristic to me. On a deep level I think it may reflect the pop culture portrayal of the future and its aesthetic simplicity, and what is more simplistic than something you can see through? But I mostly think that transparent clothes look cool.Buy it at Forever 21 for $27.80Parisian Port Dress
This is a bit of a splurge (ok, a lot of a splurge), but I HAD to include it. This dress' silouhutte and asymetrical collar is super reminiscent of the dresses worn in the original series from the 60s.Buy it at Modcloth for $94.99Palmdale Necklace
Doesn't this necklace remind you of a Klingon.Buy it at Urban Outfitters for $24Shiny Legging
These purple leggings have a galactic feel without being straight up galactic print. Pairs well with an oversized tee shirt.Buy it at American Apparel for $46ASOS CHIEF Leather Knee High Boots
You can't be on the Starship Enterprise without a pair of black boots. Maybe not the best boots for fighting aliens but at least they're cool.Buy it at ASOS for $63.64Two Tone Drape Blouse
In case you haven't noticed, two tone apparel is a standard style throughout the Star Trek franchise. This blouse incorporates that sartorial staple with a slight sliver of skin.Buy it at Nasty Gal for $58Star Trek Kirk and Spock earrings
If you're more interested in showing off how much of a Star Trek nerd you are, these cute Kirk and Spock earrings are perfect for you.Buy it at Etsy for $13Which items would you buy? Are you excited to see Star Trek this weekend? Tell us in the comments!
