What You Can Learn From Malia Obama’s Sex Life

I never thought that the President’s daughter would give me advice on my sex life, and yet here we are. We’ve been talking a lot about Plan B lately since the FDA approved sales to women as young as 15 without a prescription. This is huge news, and President Obama supported the decision.

So in the middle of this debate with people being outraged that young women can purchase Plan B, Fox News host Andrea Tantaros targeted 14-year-old Malia Obama’s sex life. Tantaros asked, “So I’m just wondering, at 15 years old, is the Obama daughter, Malia, going to go on birth control? Are they gonna put her on birth control? Because he’s very concerned with the contraceptives and pharmaceuticals that are going in the mouths of everybody else’s 15-year old daughter.”

I can’t even. It’s super inappropriate to call out the sex life of any woman, regardless of her age or who’s daughter she is. How is asking if the President’s daughter going to go on birth control even part of the argument?

The point of birth control and Plan B being available is that women have the option. It’s about having access. It’s about being able to make the choice if you want to. Just because Plan B is now available to 15-year-olds does not mean that 15-year-olds have to take Plan B. The fact that you can get birth control does not mean you have to take birth control.

I don’t think President Obama is going around putting birth control pills and Plan B in 15-year-old girls’ cereal in the morning. He’s not forcing anyone to go on birth control, but he’s supporting the fact that they have the option to if they choose. And get real! There are 15-year-olds that are having sex. There are 15-year-olds that aren’t having sex that are on birth control.

Whether Malia Obama goes on birth control or not is none of our business. Whether Malia Obama has sex or not is none of our business. Your sex life is no one’s business. Your sex life and your choices when it comes to birth control are all yours, and no one has the right to call you out on it.

Tantaros continued, “They consider 15-year olds to be women. They want to tell grown women what to do. They know how grown women feel. They have no idea how women feel. They should stop talking about it, because they have no clue.”

No, I think you’re the one who should stop talking about it.

That’s totally inappropriate and completely rude, but quite frankly, I’m not surprised. Fox has been a historically conservative network, and it’s unsurprising that they do not support President Obama’s opinions. This however, is crossing a whole other line to use his daughter as an argument.
