8 Things You’re Doing To Improve Your Grades That Will Wreck Your GPA

We all know school is super important and that studying is a necessity. At the end of every school year, you’re always trying to bump those grades up even if you already have an A. Why settle when you could maybe get it raised to an A+, right?

Doing things like extra credit are great ways to get a few more points on your average, but there are some things that you think will improve your grades that really won’t. They’re often last minute tricks or hacks that are just going to totally backfire and wreck your GPA.

Here are 8 things that actually won’t improve your grades at the end of the year!

Sucking Up To Your Teacher

Sucking up to your teacher or bribing them in any way will NOT work in your favor no matter how many times you've watched Clueless. You can't schmooze your way to an A.

Cheating

Um...DUH! Cheating won't only get you in huge trouble, but it will completely wreck your grades! And it's super unfair to the person you cheat off of. Just don't do it.

Pulling An All-Nighter

Cramming and staying up all night to study is not going to work. When you have a test or project, you need to prepare in advance! You won't absorb all the info you need to know overnight, and you definitely won't do well without sleep.

Doing Extra Credit Without Permission

Don't think that doing an extra report or project on your own is going to boost your grade. Doing extra credit is a great way to get some extra points, but you need to make sure you've approved it with your teacher first.

Taking Down Every.Single.Note

Writing down literally every note that your teacher utters or puts up on the board is not an effective way to get information. If you have an overloaded notebook, you won't have any idea what to study or what you're supposed to know.

Keeping Every.Single.Paper

You also don't want to be overloaded with papers and handouts. Don't waste your time reading something that isn't going to be on a test. Ask your teacher what you should keep and what you can get rid of.

Study Groups

Don't jump down my throat yet! Study groups can be really productive...if you're not with your friends. Mostly, study groups are really distracting, and you won't actually get anything done. Only resort to a study group if you absolutely need to talk about the material with your classmates.

Parterning Up With Your Friends For Projects

This seems like a good idea in theory, but much like study groups, working with your friends just doesn't work. If you have a big end of the year project, don't partner up with your BFF to do it because you'll end up pulling an all-nighter to get it done.

I agree with almost all of them except the “pulling an all-nighter” one. Depending on the density of the information you need to have memorized, all nighters most deffinitely work. Obviously shouldn’t be a first choice, walking around like a zombie the next day is no fun but I’ve gotten my best grades from pulling all-nighters believe it or not lol. #TeamProcrastination

You’re right. My best essays are the ones I do half-asleep at 1am. But I guess it’s different for different people.
