I got into a pretty big debate with a friend about the Disney Princesses and how they were horrible relationship role models. I vehemently disagreed because even though they do a lot of stuff to get their princes, they also dished out some good relationship advice.
This week, we’re starting with The Little Mermaid. While some criticize Ariel for giving up her world to chase after Prince Eric, I think she had a great deal of ambition. She definitely wasn’t afraid to go after what she wanted!
Here are 10 pieces of dating advice I learned from Ariel:
That sometimes a puppy-dog pout is necessary.
When you get in a fight, stick to your guns and ask him to listen.
Your boyfriend cannot read your mind, so you have to make things as clear as possible.
It’s totally fine to hate the food he made you or the restaurant he picked.
He doesn’t care what you look like without makeup or with wet hair!
You should explore your fantasies.
His friends are important to him, so do your best to get to know them too.
If you say or do something embarrassing, it’s all good. He doesn’t expect you to be perfect.
Don’t be afraid to make a move!
No one can tell you who to love, not even your dad.
