Have you ever hooked up with a guy, got him to that point and then wondered, “is he faking it?” Honestly, probably not… a lot of women think that men can’t fake orgasms.

Plus, when you think of a male orgasm, you probably picture, well, ejaculation. When you think of faking an orgasm, you probably picture a girl doing it. But it turns out that not only do men fake orgasms to spare our feelings, but that male ejaculation and male orgasms don’t always go hand in hand. That makes it almost impossible for us to really tell if a guy really did have an orgasm or not.

Experts previously explained that guys fake orgasms more than we think because they’re scared of seeing us cry. But how do they get away with faking orgasms without, um, the evidence?

The same experts say that guys can fake orgasms successfully in part because of when we have sex. Think about it: It’s usually at the end of the night, right? By then, the lights are usually out, and we’re probably a bit tired–so we’re a lot less likely to ask questions or be alert.

What’s more, if a guy is wearing a condom–and girls, he better be!–we’re a lot less likely to notice any extra fluid down there. It’s starting to make sense why two out of three guys never get caught faking an orgasm, right?

Doctors also say that while it’s difficult and rare, a guy can actually ejaculate without having an orgasm–and vice versa. It’s not easy, and it takes practice, but it can happen. It’s just sort of a bummer that it even needs to happen. Apparently guys think all this effort is just easier than saying, “Sorry, it’s not gonna happen tonight. But let’s focus on making sure you finish.”
