Raise your hand if you have perhaps been known to do a little bit of Facebook stalking… yeah, my hand is definitely raised. Because I do it, I know others do too, which is why I can spend an embarrassing amount figuring out how to look cool in my online profile. I mean, what if my old crush stumbles onto my page? I want to make sure I look like I’m living a hip and happening life!
But it can be a lot of work to carefully go through your pictures or constantly write the perfect status update. Luckily, there are a few lazy girl tricks to keep your social media profile looking cool and current, without you needing to do a whole lot of work.
The More, The Merrier
Start simple. Can you really argue with numbers? Create as many fake profiles and friends as you want and just start adding them to your total tally. Is someone going to question your cool factor if you have 45,912 friends (and counting!). Plus, you get to name all of those fake friends which sounds like a lot of fun - it's the little things. Social media is basically a way to brag about how cool things you get to do (which by association make you cool). We can't all afford cool vacations though, but you can let the Internet bring vacation photos to you. Constantly put up pictures that you just find online of beaches and worldwide monuments. Join the ranks of those celebrities with the blue check mark on Twitter to show that they are totally legit. I mean, once you reach that status, does it get much cooler? Most of our free time is spent catching up on homework, which can be kind of boring to post about on social media. What's not boring is making it sound like you're always being a social butterfly (while STILL getting those good grades!). Doing your Shakespeare reading? Post a quick "Hanging out with Will - he's so funny!" People will totally think you're with that cute guy from your class and not just reading some dusty old pages. Take a cue from professional writers to get that totally LOL-worthy or deep status update - and by cue, I mean "copy and paste." I mean, the Internet is a big place so it's probably unlikely anyone will ever find out that's not exactly an original quote. I mean, what are they going to do - simply Google it and see who actually said it?! HAHA, who has ever thought to do that?! Let's be realistic: you can't be everywhere at once. But with a legion of dedicated friends, you can use their cool experiences to up your cool factor. Is your BFF going to a cool concert? Have her take your phone and check you in. Can't afford the fancy new restaurant in town? Just stand near the doorway entrance so you can check in without ever having to pay for a meal. While you can still be a lazy girl and manage your social media profile from your couch, you may need to invest a little bit of time (luckily it's time you can keep the TV on in the background!). Just think: your term paper will be read by one teacher. Your Facebook page will be seen by HUNDREDS of friends! I think then you can figure out how much time to dedicate to preparing those respective necessities. Priorities here, people.
