Your Complete Guide To Birth Control Options

Implanon

This is the applicator, not the actual device! Source: Wikipedia

Implant (Implanon)

The implant is a small, matchstick-sized plastic device that releases progestin into your body to prevent pregnancy. It’s inserted into your upper arm and lasts for at least three years. It works like Mini-Pills and Depo-Provera.

1 in 100 women per year become pregnant when using the implant. Because it releases progestin, the implant carries the same kind of side effects and benefits as Mini-Pills and Depo-Provera. Although it’s implanted into your arm, it can be removed so it’s not permanent. This also does not protect against STDs so condoms, condoms, condoms!

There are currently two brands that make implants: Implanon and Nexplanon.
