10 Television And Movie Comebacks We Wouldn’t Say, But Sort Of Wish We Could

You know that feeling after someone says something rude and you think of the perfect comeback… about ten seconds after they’re gone. But let’s be real – the mature thing to do anyway is to not retaliate when people try to make trouble or hurt us with their words or actions. Be the bigger person! That said, it doesn’t mean we don’t sometimes get satisfaction from even just thinking up that perfect comeback in our mind.

Characters in movies or on television don’t live in our real world though, so they usually have no problem just blurting those comebacks out. Just because we wouldn’t (and shouldn’t) ever say them out loud, that doesn’t mean that it’s not sometimes kind of fun to watch our favorite characters get their verbal digs. So what are some of our favorite comebacks in pop culture? Here’s ten examples:

Mean Girls

I can’t really think of any other situations where this comeback would have the same set-up or make any sense, but I do know that Janis Ian is really the only person who could nail this.

Juno

Being annoyed with people’s boring plans? Juno had no time for that and vocalized it.

Clueless

Boys thought they could just come on up to Cher? Not only does she push them off her, she also makes sure to send it home with this comeback.

The Social Network

Being talked down to? As Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network, Jesse Eisenberg had this zinger ready to go.

Awkward.

Yikes, alternate universe Jenna! This one also could be used immediately after a comeback. Just doubling up on the digs, I guess.

10 Things I Hate About You

Siblings know what to say to make their brother or sister mad, but you don’t tell Kat Stratford she’s from Planet Loser without her having something to say about it.

Monsters Inc.

There’s something kind of cute about seeing animated Pixar characters give out comebacks, yeah?

Gossip Girl

I’m a little scared of Blair Waldorf. If I lived in the fictional Gossip Girl world, I would make sure to never cross her in fear of a sharp comeback. Her comeback here just shuts everything down.

Heathers

You know that when anybody messes with you, they probably are jealous. Heather Chandler just spelled out the obvious.

Gone With The Wind

Yup, movie comebacks have been around since way back in the 1930s. When Rhett Butler was sick of Scarlett O’Hara’s selfish behavior, he dished out this comeback and made movie history.

What are some of your favorite pop culture comebacks? Would you ever actually use one of them in real life? Tell me in the comments!

I happen to like the line from “Wedding Crashers”. During the divorce settlement in the conference room she stands up and says “YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH WHILE YOU ARE TALKING TO ME!”. Hilarious & it makes absolutely no sense.
