When it comes to kids television, two channels reign supreme: Disney Channel and Nickelodeon (okay, and if you’re me, also PBS, but we’ll save that for another day). When it comes time to get nostalgic about our favorite ’90s and early 2000s TV shows, both channels had awesome options to turn to for entertainment.
But which channel was better? Well the only way to know is a head to head competition of some of their programming and to kick it off, there’s no better place to start than with two of my all-time favorites. Clarissa Explains It All vs. Lizzie McGuire. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
STYLE:
Clarissa never shied away from fully embracing ’90s fashion and didn’t care what anyone thought.
Lizzie was an early millenial girl who also had a pretty good wardrobe, but it seemed like style stressed her out a little.
Winner: Clarissa (this was a tough call, but Clarissa was fearless with her style)
SIBLINGS:
Ferguson was annoying, but I always felt Clarissa was a little too mean to him.
Matt was funny and I appreciate that he got his own story lines.
Winner: Lizzie (they fought, but in the end, she loved her brother)
BFFs:
Sam showed that girls and boys could be just friends. Also, one time he choreographed a dance with Clarissa’s dad.
Lizzie had both Gordo and Miranda, so double the BFF goodness on television.
Winner: Clarissa (no other show will ever be able to steal the “ladder at the window” schtick)
OPENING CREDITS:
One word for you all: NA (as in “NA NA NA NA NANANANA NA NA… WAY COOL!”)
Lizzie’s opening credits always did look like a lot of fun.
Winner: Clarissa (that song will forever be stuck in my head)
LOVE INTERESTS:
I always cared way more about Clarissa’s platonic relationship with Sam than any of her romantic interests.
Lizzie was a “regular girl” who you know, just happened to date Aaron Carter and Frankie Muniz.
Winner: Lizzie (I also just remembered how she dated that pop star in the movie!)
USE OF ANIMATION:
Clarissa always had her funny comments pop up on the screen.
But Lizzie had an entire animated personality.
Winner: Lizzie (ever since, I’ve wanted a little animated “me”)
IMPORTANT LESSONS
Clarissa was always there to share some new trivia with me.
I also could always count on the cast of Lizzie McGuire to enlighten me with intriguing information.
Winner: Clarissa (I just don’t think they could name the show what they did if she wasn’t all-knowing)
….DRUM ROLL PLEASE….
The Final Tally:
Clarissa – 4
Lizzie – 3
Sorry Lizzie, but it looks like Clarissa wins in this Nickelodeon vs. Disney Channel showdown.
