So I need to get a dress for a family even this weekend and I am absolutely dreading going to the mall. It’s not even so much that I hate shopping, but about ten minutes after entering the mall, I am itching to get out as quickly as possible.
I don’t want to generalize though, as I have very specific reasons why I consider the mall a personal hell. While I value the few tolerable times I’ve gone on a shopping trip with my BFF or went to the mall with my mom over the holidays, more often than not, the mall continues to be a disappointment. Why? Look no further than these ten reasons.
10. Seriously, something is always spilled at a mall. Not even just at the food court, but like among clothing racks. It’s gross.
9. Once in a while there are sales, but I feel like they usually aren’t good. Like buy 5, to get 1 for 20% off. This is not a sale – it’s ridiculousness!
8. On the off-chance there is an actually good sale? They are literally ALWAYS the day after I finally decide to buy something.
7. I’m too indecisive to enjoy shopping. Okay, that one is more my fault, but the mall filled with stuff to choose from so it really makes it worse.
6. I won’t try on clothes at the mall unless I showered immediately before arriving. It makes me uncomfortable that I don’t know anyone else who does this and yet, we are probably trying on the same outfits.
5. If I didn’t shower, I take it home to try on. But then indecisive me doesn’t want to keep anything. I hate having to mentally brace myself to go back to the mall to make returns.
4. I love holiday spirit, but malls have a wonky sense of holidays. There is way too much advance preparation. It messes with my sense of time.
3. Everything is always disorganized. Is it so much to ask that the same brands of jeans remain on one table? Why are there no price tags?
2. Can we get a better array of mannequins? Can we not elaborately pin all their clothes into the back? I just want to see how it’s going to look on a body shape like mine without a thousand pins.
1. I have worked at the mall. There is no natural light. It’s like a jail. People are rude to you (because they do are being drained of energy by the mall). Vicious cycle.
