First off, can we all agree that Ellen DeGeneres is awesome? I mean, her show did clue the world into koala dancing. Now as you may know, Ellen is a rep for CoverGirl cosmetics, and she helped pick the new face for the makeup brand. We expect nothing less of Ellen to look for someone who has what she considers “beauty inside and out,” and she seems to have made an awesome choice in 18-year-old Alexis Harris.

Alexis beat out more than 20,000 other applicants, but as you learn more about it, it’s almost no surprise. She talks about the importance of her family, she’s a hard-working student (she’s already a junior in college!) and she’s started a campaign called the SMILE movement to positively impact her community. She seems totally deserving of this award, and Ellen gave her quite the (surprise) media introduction with this announcement.
