Do you know who in 1944 said, “The eyes of the world are upon you”? Well, that was part of the “answer” to the clue for the final round of the Jeopardy! Teen Tournament the other night, and contestant Leonard Cooper didn’t know the answer.
The thing is though is that based on what he’d wagered, there was no way Leonard could lose the tournament. He went ahead and gave a straight to the point answer that got the audience laughing: “Who is some guy in Normandy. But I just won $75,000!”
Anyway, the right answer was Dwight D. Eisenhower (which I would have gotten wrong), but props to Leonard for his memorable win. Sadly, I missed the live viewing of this episode, but seeing get passed around the Internet got me thinking about my own Jeopardy! potential.
I’m like so-so when it comes to getting answers correct on Jeopardy! – though, right now my biggest Jeopardy! competition is my grandmother, so I don’t know how much we can really use that as a gauge. However, there are a few Jeopardy! categories that I know I would be unbeatable at if they ever showed up on the blue board:
Things Liz Lemon Says
On more than one occasion, I have said a Liz Lemon quote as a substitute for my own actual words. I also have great recall on quotes, so I wouldn't even jumble the words. It would just be perfect Liz Lemon lines recited back (in the form of the question) in order to snag a win. "I want to go to there." Source: David Bodrick/DMBJ/WENN.comPretty Little Liars BOOKS
Here's where I get sneaky. I don't watch the TV show, but I did obsessively read the books. I'd be at an advantage here because I'm solid on the book plots and there'd be no risk of me getting confused about what's been happening on the television version. Category owned! To make a generalization, I feel like if you don't play field hockey, there's a good chance you have absolutely zero clue about the rules. They are kind of confusing. To be honest, I had been playing for a while and didn't fully know all the rules until I had to start teaching them to kids at camp. The point is, now I know them and many people do not, so I'd rock that category. Source: Shutterstock.comJennifer Lawrence's Life
The number of Jennifer Lawrence stories I read each day may be more than many people think is acceptable. I want her to be my best friend so badly, that I feel like if I know everything about her, I will know just how to mold myself into her perfect friend. Whether the category asked about her random talk show appearances or her amazing movies, I'm kind of a JL know-it-all. Source: WENN.comWhat Tetris Move Should Happen Next?
I am the best Tetris player I know. Hands down. If I see a screen and an incoming piece, I'm like a computer and can immediately figure out what to do with it. I also imagine this being one of those fun picture categories which are always welcome during a round of Jeopardy!. Source: Shutterstock.comName That Disney Channel Original Movie
Who is that pictured at left? Well, that's Erik von Detten of the 1998 DCOM Brink! I watched those Disney Channel Original Movies all the time when I was younger, and I've even stayed up to date on the newer ones, so I feel pretty solid about sweeping this. Quotes from the movie? I can basically recite the entire thing. Important plot points from the book? I have them bookmarked in my paperback AND e-book copies (but not my hardcover copy, because that's for safekeeping). When it comes to the March sisters, I am an expert. The only person who could maybe beat me is my cousin. Maybe. Source: Amazon.comThings That Can Be Recycled
I'm a little obsessed with recycling. I have been known to save gum wrappers to recycle. I actually get this from my mom who is really disciplined about it and even has a booklet all about how to sort recycling, which of course, I have read. I think that knowledge would pay off in this category. Source: Shutterstock.comTop Chef Trivia
I basically forced an entire conversation about my Top Chef obsession on the walk back from lunch with my co-workers today. Whether it's memorable meals (I still want Grayson and Chris' chicken salad sandwich at least once a week) or my favorite judges, I have my finger on the pulse of Top Chef. I feel very confident in this category. Source: FayesVision/WENN.comProcrastination
In this category, they would read an important task that needs to get done and it would require a perfect excuse to postpone it. Yes, it's ironic that I'd be the first to answer in a procrastination category, but I am so pro at procrastination, that it is in fact one of the few things that I actively do. The Jennifer Lawrence one made me laugh, but I know how you feel. I always feel so much smarter during the teen tournaments because the questions are so much easier, but during the baseball off-season, we watch the show almost every night. (We miss most episodes from April-October, since so many baseball games are night games). There are some nights where we get a category I sweep, and other nights where all the categories are basically foreign to me. It’s always fun though, we can get kind of competitive, and my dad will often know the most random, obscure facts and we all just sort of look at him and go “How do you KNOW that?”
There’s a Little Women movie?! Wait, who am I kidding- there’s a movie for practically every famous classic. I am so rereading the book and watching the movie
. And I’m really good at procrastinating, except without the excuses. “Why haven’t you started your homework?” “Because… I was… practicing the piano.” “For two hours?” “No, for 30 minutes, but… I…” (conversation with my dad today).
There’s actually a few Little Women movies, but the one I used for the gallery picture (and my absolute favorite) is the 1994 version. It has a really great cast, and I totally recommend it!
So… you’re an idiot then?
