Just in case you don’t know, Pope Benedict XVI resigned from Popedom today. The last time a Pope resigned was in 1415 when Pope Gregory XII resigned after rival claims to the throne were made.
The Pope says “that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry.” He’s going to be 86 this year, so he needs some rest. I’m not Pope expert, but Pope Benedict XVI seemed like a pretty cool Pope, as far as Popes go, you know? He was on Twitter and wore a lot of hats. #PopeHatJoke
Naturally, the interwebs are taking full advantage with tweets, memes, and GIFs-galore! Here are some of our favorite jokes of the day:

I don’t under stand the anger….it’s not like Gurl, wrote the tweets….
Really Gurl, really? This is just going too far. Whether or not you are doing it intentionally, this definitely crosses the line. Unless you are Catholic, which I highly doubt based on other articles you’ve written, don’t go talking like this. This isn’t just political figure who you vote for or don’t vote for. Have some respect for others.
I’m pretty into the ‘if it offends you, don’t read it’ mentality, but something like this coming from a website that is supposed to be open and respectful to everyone is seriously offensive. Religion is a touchy subject. If it’s not your religion, don’t go posting jokes on the Internet. Find a dictionary, go to the Ds, and look up discretion.
It’s not that bad. I’m a very strict Catholic and yes, some of those were crossing the line (An interview? Really? It’s more than just a political figure or a job…) but people are always going to parody events in history. Personally I hope a younger Cardinal gets in, the Catholic Church needs someone who can relate to our younger generation. Kudos to Benedict for trying, with technology and such, but I do think the Church needs a fresh face.
Also, with this website being pro-choice and pro-premarital sex I doubt many of them are Catholics, or not strict ones anyway.
Chill the f*** down. Every day now people find tiny little jokes offensive. Don’t like it? Don’t read it. Simple as that.
I agree. Somebody is always commenting about something being offensive on here. If you don’t like it, don’t get on gurl.com. Simple as that.
