I think sometimes I’m a little hard on January. I really love February (the Oscars!!), so sometimes I feel like I treat January as just the weeks that stand in my way until then. But I started thinking about it recently, and I’ve decided that my attitude is totally unfair to the first month of the year.
By doing super cool or important things in January, it helps kick off the whole new year with an awesome start. Turns out, there’s a lot of stuff happening and winter activities to do during these first weeks of 2013! Putting together this list, I started getting really excited that it’s January, but it looks like I may need to kick it in gear to make sure I take care of everything I want to get done.
Here we have ten things that you NEED to do before January is over!
Write Down Your ResolutionsQuick, before you forget! If you made some resolutions this year, take a second to write them down to help you remember them. That way February won't roll around and you've already forgotten what you wanted to do to make 2013 rock. Source:Shutterstock.com
Go To The MoviesThe Oscars (aka my favorite day) are not until February, but that means the theaters are usually full of awesome movies that are hoping to get some recognition at the Academy Awards. But no matter what you decide to see, going to the movies could be a great way to escape into another world if you are finding January to be a little too much of the same cold and gray for you. Watch The Golden GlobesYou've brushed up on all your movies, so now you have to watch this awards show! Need an even better reason? Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are hosting so it is sure to be hilarious! You can support these two funny ladies by watching the 70th Golden Globe Awards on January 13 at 8 ET/5 PT on NBC. Source: Hugh Dillon/WENN
Head To The MallDid you completely avoid the mall because of all the holiday hustle and bustle? Now you can take advantage of any good post-holiday sales! Plus, make any of those returns or exchanges on unwanted gifts so they stop taking up space in your room. Some places might only have a 30-day return policy so this is really the month you need to fit that in. Source:Shutterstock.com
Rock A New HatWhile you're at the mall, pick up a new hat because January 15 is apparently National Hat Day (though the details on its origin appear to be a little hazy). In the cold of January, a warm and cozy hat is great not only on National Hat Day, but all winter. Check out our picks for 5 super cute hats. Even if you live somewhere warm, hats can be a great way to keep the sun off of your face, so we urge you to take National Hat Day seriously this year! Source: Shutterstock.com
Prep For The Super BowlI'm not even a big football fan, but watching the Super Bowl can be fun. It's happening on February 3, so basically once January ends, it'll already be here. You can prep in whatever way you see fit! Try out some new recipes to bring to your friend's party, order that jersey if you think your team is going all the way, or even if you're not a huge football fan, you can use this month to watch the NFL playoffs so that you're ready to jump into any conversations on game day. Brush Up On Your American HistoryIt's important to remember that January 21 this year isn't just another day off from school, but rather Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a holiday that commemorates an extremely important civil rights leader. Even if you know a fair amount about MLK's life, take some time again this January to remember the reason for the holiday and do a little reading to refresh your memory or learn something new. Give Your Skin Some TLCJanuary just started and I already noticed that my hands are kind of a dry mess - and there are still months of cold weather ahead of me! I like to take a little time to treat my hands to a soothing manicure with bright polish that also perks up my mood. We have a whole winter beauty guide full of great tips to keep you feeling refreshed this January, and thus ready to tackle the rest of winter from here on out. Source:Shutterstock.com
Organize, Organize, OrganizeYou were probably super ready for winter break, so there's a good chance your binder still has old notes falling out of it and your desk is a mess from all your pre-vacation cramming. Take a day to organize your binders, your desk and your locker this January. This first month is a good time to catch up on it while everyone is getting back in the school groove, and it's way better to deal with it now then have a whole mess of unorganized study spaces later in the spring.
