Um, guys? I don’t know if you realized this, but celebrating Christmas takes a lot of work. It’s not like we’re little kids anymore – when we were, all we had to do was wake up super early to get our presents from Santa. Remember that? It was so wonderful. The only thing we had to worry about was how angry our parents were going to get when we woke them up at the crack of dawn – and we really didn’t even care because PRESENTS. But now that we’re older (ugh) we have a million things to do… and if we don’t do them? Our holidays will seriously suck.
Too caught up in studying/your crush/your friends to come up with a list of stuff you need to do? Don’t worry, I got you, girl. I know Christmas can be a little overwhelming, so I’ve come up with a few things you absolutely need to do before Christmas to ensure you’ll have the best holiday season ever. What are you waiting for? You’ve got stuff to do!
Bake Christmas Cookies
What is Christmas without Christmas cookies? I couldn't tell you. They're absolutely necessary to having a good holiday. And, fine, if you're too lazy to make them, at least buy them.
Practice Fake-Liking Gifts
You're going to get some pretty awesome gifts this year... but let's face it, you're also going to get some pretty awful ones. But since it's rude to tell someone how much you hate what they picked out for you, it's a good idea to practice some fake smiles and "OMG I love this" phrases.
Find A Way To Give Back
Don't forget, Christmas is actually about giving... not receiving. It's the happiest time of the year! So why don't you get in on the joy and make some less fortunate people happy? Go to your local church or homeless shelter and find a way to volunteer. Or, steal our intern's awesome idea. Either way, you'll be making someone else happy and also making yourself happy.
Learn All The Words To Jingle Bells
I mean, if you don't know the words to this song already... I just don't know. Don't embarrass yourself in front of your jolly, holiday-happy relatives and/or friends. Get in on the Jingle Bells action and belt out a few lines.
Buy A Cute Pair Of Pajamas
...Because you know your parents are going to try to take corny pictures of you in your PJs with all of your gifts in front of the tree. And they might end up on Facebook. Or maybe that's just my dad.
Go Gift Shopping NOW
What's the worst thing you can do on Christmas Eve? Answer: Run to the mall and frantically search for a present for your brother because you kept putting it off. Trust me. Nothing good is left and at that point, you're so desperate for something that you'll end up settling for a lame gift you're embarrassed to give him. Plus, it ruins Christmas Eve traditions, like eating dinner food as your mom cooks it.
Buy Yourself A Present
While you're at the store, pick up a little something special for yourself. What?! That way you'll know you have at least one thing to look forward to getting. Think about it. I'm not even joking. You deserve to treat yourself sometimes, and Christmas is the perfect excuse.
Make A Holiday Mix You Actually Like
It's December, which means you will be hearing Mariah Carey's version of Christmas songs everywhere you go. There's no escaping it. So do yourself a favor and make a holiday mix that you actually enjoy. Play it for yourself while you're wrapping gifts and eating cookies. It'll definitely make you feel festive.
Throw Away Your Scale
It's the holidays. You're going to eat, probably a lot. Whatever. So don't even look at that scale in your bathroom. You don't need to stress over your body 365 days a year, and Christmas is a time to just enjoy yourself.
Buy Festive Shoes... That Are Comfortable
You're going to need a cute outfit for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve... and whatever else comes up in between. Do yourself a favor and get a pair of comfy but cute shoes. Nothing is worse than feeling full while trying not to fall in a pair of painful heels.
What do you have left to do before Christmas? Who else do you have to buy presents for? What are you most excited about for the holidays? Tell me in the comments!
