When it comes to aphrodisiacs–as in, stuff that turns us on–it turns out romantic songsare even better than who we’re with.
New research says we’re equally likely to be turned on by music during sexy times as we are by how the person we’re with smells, feels, or looks. Hot damn! By the numbers: six out of 10 of us get turned on by romantic music, and 1 out of 3 of us actually can think of a song we consider better than sex.
It’s not just any songs that do the trick, though. Out of the 40 percent of people who say that romantic songs are a bigger turn on than touch during sex (we think that’s a stretch!), apparently the Dirty Dancing soundtrack is the most likely to get them going. As in, “Nobody puts baby in a corner.”
The top romanticsongs, aside from DD‘s soundtrack? Marvin Gaye‘s classics “Sexual Healing” and “Let’s Get It On” and pretty much anything by Barry White (the dude with the ridiculously deep voice). Another weirdly romantic song for doing the deed, according to the study? “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion. (Dude, really? REALLY?)
As for the songs better than sex? Ironically, one of them is a sex song itself: “Sex on Fire” by Kings of Leon was deemed better than boning a hottie. Others included “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen, because, obviously:
Have the complete opposite taste in romantic songs than the guy you’re with? Don’t worry too much–he’ll probably be willing to accommodate. One researcher explained, “Men are more likely to bend their tastes to win over a lady, even those who listen to extreme genres such as punk or metal, will go for safer, more typically romantic songs to woo.”
So if you don’t like thinking about a sinking ship while you’re getting it on, be sure to tell him!
Do you have a favorite romantic song? Is there any song that totally kills the mood for you? Have you and a guy ever disagreed over what music to play while getting it on? Tell us in the comments!
