Tomorrow is lots of things. It’s Friday (I honestly wonder what Rebecca Black is up to), it’s 12 days before Halloween, and (totally most importantly) it’s Spirit Day! If you have no idea what the hell I’m talking about, stick with me. Spirit Day is an awesome annual event where people are encouraged to wear purple as a way to stand in solidarity with LGBT youth and fight bullying.

So, obviously you’re wearing purple. That one’s taken care of. But what else can you do? Lots of things, it turns out! GLAAD, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, is making it super easy to support your LGBT friends. First, you can donate $5 to help support the community by texting the word “purple” to 80888. Want to go a step further? Turn your Facebook or Twitter profile pic purple with this awesome (and easy) Twibbon. It looks cool, and it’s for one of the best causes out there.

And to those of you who are like, “Yeah, I’d do this if I had gay friends or if there were LGBT kids at my school, but there aren’t,” listen up. Since roughly one in ten people fit somehow into the LGBT community, chances are you DO know someone who could use your support, but you just don’t know it yet.

And besides, purple looks good on everybody. Let’s do this Spirit Day thing right!
