Halloween is one of my favorite holidays of all time… and not just because it also happens to be my birthday. I love carving pumpkins, dressing up in a crazy costume, the free candy (obviously) and just the overall spooky feeling of October 31. The best way to make things even spookier? Some seriously creepy Halloween tunes.
There’s a ton of creeptastic songs out there, but I’m pretty sure I’ve found a few of the best ones ever. These are the songs that instantly put you in a Halloween mood. I grew up with these playing on repeat during the month of October, and I’m sure I’m not alone. Listen to some of our favorite old-school Halloween songs ever, and keep them in mind for your next Halloween party. Perfect playlist!
Monster Mash – Bobby “Boris” Pickett
You can’t have a list of Halloween songs without including “Monster Mash”. Trust me, I know… I just searched the whole Internet and discovered this. But that’s because it’s one of the best songs ever. It’s super nostalgic but manages to never get old.
Halloween (H-A-Double-L-O-W-Double-E-N) – Wade Denning & Kay Lande
Remember singing this song in school? I love all of the spooky sounds in the background. This one is really fun and creepy at the same time. I mean, I can’t go through one Halloween without listening to this.
Ghostbusters Theme Song
I know Ghostbusters isn’t a show about Halloween, but it might as well be because, um, it’s all about ghosts. But whether this was meant to be a Halloween theme song or not, it totally is. I think more about October 31 than the show when I hear it… but maybe that’s just me.
Thriller – Michael Jackson
This may be one of the longest music videos ever, but it’s totally worth it to watch it. I will forever say that this is Michael Jackson’s greatest song ever. It’s just such a classic! Seriously, put this on and I guarantee everyone will get in the Halloween mood. Then learn the dance moves and teach them to me, please and thank you.
This Is Halloween – Marilyn Manson
There are a few versions of this song (like the one you probably all know from The Nightmare Before Christmas), but I like the Marilyn Manson one a lot because his voice is super, super creepy. I can definitely see him hiding under stairs, no question.
Halloween Theme Song
I feel like the Halloween theme song is the constant background noise to anything related to the holiday. But even though I’ve heard it a minimum of one million times, it still always manages to get me scared. Michael Meyers is seriously terrifying – he never dies!
I Put A Spell On You – Screamin’ Jay Hawkins
Whenever I think of this song, I think of Hocus Pocus, which is only one of the greatest Halloween movies of all time. It’s such an awesome song, and it’s one that everyone can appreciate… even your grandparents, who hate all things pop culture.
Time Warp from The Rocky Horror Picture Show
First of all, I’d just like to say, if you’ve never been to a theater to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show, you should go. Right now. If this song doesn’t convince you, then I don’t know what will. This is perfect for a Halloween dance mix.
Purple People Eater – Sheb Wooley
This is one of the best Halloween songs for kids ever. I mean, okay, it’s not even that creepy. But it’s kind of creepy when you’re a little kid and you’re really picturing a purple monster.
Everybody (Backstreet’s Back) – Backstreet Boys
You may be wondering when the Backstreet Boys released a Halloween song. Well, they didn’t. This song has absolutely nothing to do with Halloween, but they made an entire Thriller-rip-off video for it anyway. This is so bad it’s actually good – and it will also bring back a ton of childhood memories.
What’s your favorite on this list? What did I miss? What do you love about Halloween? Tell me in the comments!
