Birth control (and maybe makeup!) can help you reach your goals. | Source
Not to get all magic beans on you, but if you knew there was a pill that could help you achieve your goals (we’re not talking about Adderall, either), would you be interested? Because that’s one of the things that birth control does. Really!
Of course, preventing pregnancy in itself is a big reason for birth control–but women and girls are taking birth control to prevent pregnancy in order to achieve goals like getting and keeping a good job, staying in school, and supporting themselves. Those are all tough to manage–and usually a lot more expensive–if you have a baby. You probably know that already–most of you have seen the struggles on shows like Teen Mom.
Interestingly, too, a lot of the reasons cited for taking birth control were the same as reasons for abortion. It kind of goes to show that no one is like, “Well, I just felt like killing a fetus!” Because there’s a lot more to a decision and to life than that.
These are all aside from health reasons: A lot of women and girls who aren’t even sexually active still use birth control, especially oral contraceptives, because of the medical benefits. They’re often used to correct hormonal imbalances, regulate their periods, or ease up their cramps.
Over half of the women and girls in the study explained that they’re not ready to have a baby and that birth control gives them just that: Control, over not just their reproductive organs and bodies, but also of their lives. And that’s the right of everyone–having a kid is something too serious and too permanent to leave up to chance. (Her that, Rush Limbaugh? Birth control doesn’t make us sluts!)
Basically, you have a lot of stuff you want to achieve: An education, an awesome job, and a life full of opportunities, new experiences, and fun stories. And someday you may eventually want kids. In between those things, a lot of you may or may not be sexually active–which, when of-age, consenting partners are concerned, is your prerogative and right. As long as you and your partners are being safe, responsible, and respectful, do you–and do it with birth control.

Oh, so I need birth control to be successful.
I used birth control pills for two reasons: to get trod of my dysmenorrhea and to predict my menstrual date. But it only took me 9 months. I stopped using it because I wanted to have a child. After my delivery, I will again take my pills. It really helped me and my husband to plan my pregnancy.

I started birth control a few years ago, before sex even entered my mind, when I was about 16. I took it for about a year, then stopped because I just kept forgetting, which made me have terrible mood swings. Now, I’m 20, married, have no children, and started on it again because my periods were getting bad again. They were somewhat regular, but a 40 day cycle is not healthy or fun, and my cramps paralyzed me for the first 2-3 days of my period, not to mention the headaches and crazy mood swings. I love being on birth control, and I’m really glad I made the decision to start back on it again.
I started on birth control because I was having really irregular periods (like once every 4 months). We went to the doctor and I found out i had polycystic ovaries… Meaning if I didn’t menstruate, these cysts would probably turn into tumors. I went on the pill then and i felt all the side effects: morning sickness, my boobs inflated, mood swings. I went off it after 6 months but my period still wasn’t regular. I made the decision to just continue on the pill because it’s a much better assurance.
i would, but i’m still having kids, i don’t want to quit
Well many older people tell me that taking birth control messes with your natural cycle. Oh well, I used to throw up ALL DAY on the first day I got my period. It sucked and if that was natural for me then I didnt want it. I tried so many different medicines ( because my mom didnt want me to take birth control yet) and maybe it would work for one month but the next month surely when I got my period my head was in the toilet all day. When I got to high school and started playing volleyball my mom thought it was time i guess so i went to a gyn got the birth control and i no longer throw up ! plus i get my period every 3 months. I have to say birth control is probably saving my life right now cause I am able to go to school and what not instead of having that miserable day every month.
I love the birth control pill!!! I’ve been taking it for three years already, and will continue doing so until I’m ready to have children.
I use birth control. Not becuase of sex, but like they stated; for hormones to be balanced, so I don’t get a headache every day, so my periods aren’t as heavy, and so I’m not so irritable. I never really thought about it as a goal reacher until now.
