The latest The X-Factor promo has dropped and we’re totally stoked. Britney Spears and Demi Lovato are some serious critics. What’s awesome is that typically the female judges on American Idol or the X-Factor tend to be big softies.
Here is what Simon Cowell had to say about Brit Brit, “In the past we’ve had judges that never say no but she can’t say no quick enough on this show. She’s quite difficult to please.”
How many millions of albums has she sold? How long has she been doing this? She has over a decades worth of experience, it would be a little weird if she weren’t a tough critic. Though we can’t come down too hard on former judges, it’s pretty obvious that the producers of the show “cast” (or at least expect) judges to play against each other. Simon Cowell is always the big meanie, the female judge is always there to play nice and tell the boys to “stop being so mean” and usually another male judge plays the neutral, boring, (Hello there, Randy Jackson!) party.
Simon continued to gush about both Demi and Britney, “We have no control over these two whatsoever, and there are many, many times that we disagree, but that’s what’s made it more interesting this year. They are both unpredictable and have different and strong views.”
Yes, it’s always more interesting when people, girls and guys, are given the opportunity to stick to their guns, hash out their differences, and have equally valid, yet opposing views!
Many of the former judges like Nicole Scherzinger, Paula Abdul and Jennifer Lopez scarcely said anything negative about contestants even when they were pretty bad. There’s no point in being mean to anyone Simon-style, but constructive criticism should be a part of the game. It’s nice to see that Britney and Demi are letting their personalities shine through, instead of playing into the “puppies and bubble gum”, cutesy judge role. Although I get the feeling that’s not exactly what the producers expected when the two divas were picked.
