The MTV VMA’s are basically a rite of passage. Every year we gather round our TVs, computers, and iPads to watch them live. We Tweet, Facebook, and Tumbl our reactions to all the crazy highlights and for a moment in time there is world peace. (OK, maybe not.) Even if you’re not into awards shows, you know to watch the VMAs. Without fail there is an amazing performance, an embarrassing moment, and something too shocking to miss when it happens live. We have rounded up the 5 best MTV VMA moments for your viewing pleasure!

Bey’s Baby Bump

Beyonce has always been an amazing performer, so when she came out in that sparkly, purple-sequined blazer we expected nothing less than spectacular. What we got instead was—huh?! She’s pregnant?! Since when?! We’re used to performers having some pretty grand finales but this one really takes the cake for magic tricks. Major props go to Bey for making her pregnancy known to the public on her own terms! It was also pretty sweet seeing how genuinely excited Jay and she were.

Michael Jackson’s Medley

The King of Pop BROUGHT it. The medley of his best hits, sweetest dance moves, and Slash from Guns N Roses was EPIC. When we remember M. J. this is how we remember him: gifted, talented, and groundbreaking.

Lady Gaga Bleeds On Stage

Gaga’s performance began like any other Gaga performance: extravagant stage, weird dancers, and a whole lot of drama. It wasn’t until the end, where blood began to pour out of her chest and she was lifted off the stage, hanging by one arm, that we knew this would be one of those VMA “OMG” moments.

Britney, Madonna, And Christina Swap Spit

Who can forget this infamous moment? Not to mention Justin Timberlake’s facial expression. We have no idea what inspired this scandalousness, but we know we’ll remember it for our lifetime.

Kanye Interrupts T-Swift

Yikes. The world knew Yeezy could be a bit arrogant, but this just solidified it. Sure, Beyonce is great (which is why instead of Best Video By A Female Artist she won Video Of The Year), but Taylor Swift definitely deserved to have her moment.
