Your negativity is NOT cute. Source
Now, I’m sure some of you are like, “What the hell does she mean, yucking her yum?,” so for you, I’ll explain. Yucking someone’s yum just means dissing something someone else is really excited about. For no reason. Just to be contrary.
For instance: I’m about to go on a vacation that I’m really excited about. I’ve been planning it for months and am obviously counting down the days. I mentioned where I was going to this girl (who generally isn’t a jerk, mind you!) and you know what the first thing she said was? “Ohmygod. Why would you want to go THERE?!” My jaw just about dropped to the floor. She of course had zero idea that she was being totally rude, and I’m sure she would have felt horrible about it if I’d not let it slide the way I did, but um, WOAH. It’s not like she has to go on my vacation! Even just a somewhat disinterested, “Oh,” would have been a better response than the totally negative one she gave me.
Or, here’s an even more literal case of someone yucking my yum. A few weeks ago, I got my favorite sandwich at lunch (egg salad sandwich lovers, represent!) and someone actually said, “Eew. How can you eat that?!” Dude! I’m not making anyone else eat my sandwich! Actually, I’d be mad if you tried to eat it, so whether or not it sounds tasty to you doesn’t matter one bit! Shut. Your. Trap.
Negativity does have its place in this world. It’s important for us to speak out against things that are dangerous or unfair to others. But as for my vacation locations, sandwich preferences, favorite colors to wear, and other things that don’t concern anyone else at all? Please just keep your opinions to yourself.
Have you ever been guilty of yucking someone’s yum? Do you hate it when people diss on things you’re into for no reason? Tell me in the comments!

Can You Trust Him?
I totally get what you guys are saying. The thing is with me, is that my best friend is starting to do it. Thank you so much for posting this
I’ve always got that reactions too from “What, you like rock music?” , “You read manga and watch anime, what’s that?” and in highschool i discovered korean music …. “Why do you like those chinese dudes? they look like girls!” , i mean what is peoples problem? i don’t start squealing my head off when i hear people spazz over Beiber or some TV soap opera that i find ridiculos so i expect at least the same thing.
Why in the world would it matter what another person says about a thing that you like? Other people’s opinions change neither the taste, nor the look, nor the feel of the thing you like. And if they poo-poo it just to annoy you, that’s even more reason to just shrug and then ignore it.
Also, I really don’t see why in the world I should put up an act. I say what I think and feel and that’s it. If somebody is so insecure in their own tastes and opinions and so focused on what other people think that I am able to spoil something they like just by not liking it myself – how about growing up and developing some independent personality?
OMG!!! THANK U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As u can tell by my username I’m a fan of Miley Cyrus, and I don’t just mean her music. I think she’s just an awesome person. But whenever I mention this 2 someone 4 the 1st time, they’d say something like “Ew. How can u like her? She’s ugly and smokes pot!” When 4 the record, she smokes salvia, which is legal in 30 states, including the one she lives in. It makes me feel like an outcast with music, but ur rite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People need 2 mind their own freaking business!
Yeah I definitely hate when people do that, but I have done this before. I did feel bad afterwards and regretted it.
Absolutely, I really hate it. I used to know a guy (totally don’t have any contact with him anymore), who would ALWAYS do that! Everything I liked, he dissed, from books to shows to just things in general. It got really old, and I felt like I couldn’t talk about anything I liked around him. So yeah, it’s FINE if you don’t like what I like, and if I ask if you want to watch something you don’t like, saying “I’m sorry, I’m not really a fan of ____” is cool, but you don’t have to be a jerk about it.
I totally agree, I hate when people do that!
