So, halitosis is just a fancy term for bad breath. You know, dog breath, swamp mouth, stinkor. It’s not what you want, but if it’s what you’ve got–we can help.

The first and most important thing is to figure out whether you have bad breath in the first place. It can be really hard to tell on your own, so you might want to ask a super good friend or your mom to tell you. Then, if it turns out that you’re a member of the Bad Breath Brigade, follow these tips to get smelling fresh again.

Here’s how to ditch halitosis and have great breath:

1. See Your Dentist Regularly
At least once a year, you should have a pro clean all the gunk way down between your teeth, check for cavities, and make sure your gums are healthy!

2. Brush Those Pearlies!
Technically, you’re supposed to brush and floss after every meal, but twice a day is definitely better than nothing.

3. Focus On Your Tongue
Every time you brush your teeth, brush your tongue, too! It sounds weird (and it feels funny), but it’ll help your breath stay nicer for longer.

4. Rise Responsibly
The super strong antiseptic rinses (I know, they usually taste bad!) are the best ones for keeping bad breath at bay, since they help kill bacteria that live in your mouth.

5. Drink A Ton Of Water
Drinking water is a super easy and natural way to flush stinky bacteria and any bits of stuck food out of your mouth (and eventually out of your body!)

6. Choose Gum Over Mints
Mints are fine in a pinch, since they’ll cover any bad smells, but they won’t actually fix the problem. Chewing gum actually increases your saliva flow, which helps flush smelly stuff from your mouth.

If you have done all of these and still have bad breath all the time (not just after you’ve eaten garlic or strong, spicy foods), it might be time to see a doctor. Bad breath can be a symptom of some health problems that they can help you with.
