Community Service. You want to do it, but you don’t know how to get started, right? Well, we’re making doing good super easy. Actually, it’s the organizations that are making it super easy. We’re just telling you about them!
So many orgs are geared towards young people that make getting involved as simple as hosting a drive with a friend or using social media to help spread the word about a great cause! Here are 3 totally simple ways for you to get involved right now!
-Bella Thorne, the star of Disney’s Shake it Up!, is teaming up with Staples for Students and DoSomething.org to give kids in need school supplies. By sharing Staples for Students pre-written note on Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr, you’re helping promote the cause and raise money to help kids in need. Staples will donate one dollar when you share it!
Are you chock-full of creativity? Then share your own message! It’s as simple as writing on your hand and uploading a photo or video to StaplesforStudents.org. You can even win a trip to Hollywood! Score! And you can totally run a used supplies drive if you want to get even more involved. Check out StaplesforStudents.org to get tips and tools. Plus, you can donate supplies at your local Staples!
-This idea also comes from our friends at DoSomething.org. It’s called Thumb Wars, and it’s a campaign rallying young people to stop texting and driving. Sign up to get their mega-cute thumb socks online, and give the socks to that friend who’s always texting and driving! Show them statistics about the dangers of texting and driving, and remind them that it’s not cool.
For example, sending a text while driving at 55MPH means that your eyes can go off the road for the length of an entire football field. Yowser! Snap some pictures with the thumb socks and share your photos on DoSomething.org. Nearly 59,000 socks have been given out so far!
- Cell Phones for Soldiers is a charity collecting gently used phones to give (for free) to deployed and returning soldiers. With your old phones, soldiers can keep in touch with their loved ones. This organization has a green thumb too! So far, over ten million cell phoneswere recycled rather than thrown in landfills. Check out CellPhonesforSoldiers.com to locate or start a drive today!
What kind of community service are you into? Have any great organizations to brag about? Tell us in the comments.
