Check out what’s new on our boards! Right now, girls are talking about how to deal with bad self-esteem.
We loved what Kait had to say and knew she deserved a spotlight on our site! Bad self-esteem stinks, but what she says proves that you have no reason to hate your body – you’re beautiful the way you are! We’re definitely going to remember her advice the next time we’re feeling down, and we hope you girls do also.

I think every teen girl has had at least one of those bad self-image days, right?
Either you feel fat, ugly, or just plain crappy; you know what it feels like. Through the years, I have struggled with self-esteem issues, and have had those “bad days” quite a lot. Yeah – they suck. But I have also figured out a way to feel better about myself when I am having one of those days. So, next time you’re standing in front of the mirror, picking out your every flaw, remember these things:
- You only have one body, love it!: You are born with one body and one body only; it’s your job to love it!
- You are unique, there is no one that looks exactly like you: When was the last time you were walking down the street, and walked past someone who was identical to you? Never! You are YOU, and no one will ever be the same. Embrace that!
- “But I’m Ugly!” Do me a favor, take out a piece of paper and write down everything you like about yourself. Whether it’s your grades, an accomplishment you made, or something you’re good at (like a sport, art, dancing), whatever it is, focus on that. Stop worrying about what you look like! Focus on the thing you’re good at, and it will make your confidence go up a lot.
- Is weight an issue for you?: I know many girls who aren’t happy with their weight, so you aren’t alone! But there are so many things you can do to feel better about yourself! Start eating fruit instead of that bag of chips, you’ll feel better after! Take a walk outside, the fresh air will do you good! Get a workout buddy, working out is 10x more fun with a friend!
Now, write everything you like about yourself below. Or, if you have any tips, write them!
Just remember that you are beautiful, no matter what.
How great is this advice?! Do you want to add to this convo? Then go for it, girl. Tell us what you love about yourself in the boards!

Can You Trust Him?
most of the time i will look at my self in the mirror and feel fine about my looks. and sometimes i will wake up looking like big foot.
I am 14, 5’4″ and 140 pounds. I am a gymnast so most of its muscle. But I do have a little muffin top that I’m really self conscious about. Especially because my mom has called me fat and some “friends” have too. But I also have really bright blue/green eyes, a 4.0 GPA, and beautiful blond curly hair!!!
Ive always thought I was fat, but today a gurl in my 7th period class bullied me, Im not very strong but I would have fought her if I wasn’t such a goody two-shoes. My mama always said that if they put there hands on me first I was aloud to hit back, the gurl in my class started saying how fat an ugly I was, when she was the one hiding under her make-up, I hate make-up an I never touch it inless its chapstick.
I no that I am who I am an I will never change who I am. I am tall, burnette, green eyes, an red cheeks no matter what, I have a dimple on my right cheek, an freckles on my nose an all over my legs an arms. I love how I look
I don’t really know about the advice “someone else looking like me”. I have one of those faces that looks very similar to about a hundred people here, and I’m constantly being called by different names of those similar looking people
im 14, 5’10, 160 lbs, and have a lot of leg muscle from track soccer and softball but im still self-conscious and have a small muffin top but im staying fit and hoping to loose it.
i like my eyes they are almond shaped and with good make-up the guys will keep on lookin’.

I like my beauty mark right next to my lips,my height, my eyes , my hair,my body, and the way i try people with respect
Im. 14 ,5’4 and weigh 160 ans i dont look it but i still need to work out
im 13 and 5’11 and i weigh 140-150 i fell fat all the time. i work out and i am eating right but the weights not coming of what can i do? please help!
i was like you when i was your age. yes, you are taller and weigh more than i did at 13, but since i was shorter than you, the proportion was about the same. you seam to do be doing everything right to me! are you honest with yourself though? do you honestly eat the correct amount of calories the correct way? are you exercising in ways that make you burn calories? honesty is important! alot of times you may be eating more than you realize! a way to help and see if you are eating and burning the correct amount of calories is to go to webmd and count every bit up in a food and exercise log.
also, you need to remember that you are 13. you are still young and still growing. if not taller, in other ways. you may loose it naturally as well. (and like it or not, being 13 is emotional so that is sure not helpful.)
and actually, i just did a quick google search, and for being 5’11, 140 is not a bad weight to be at.
anyways, if you are concerned, honesty is the best policy, especially with yourself. i hope my tips helped you!
Hey don’t fret, everyone’s body is shaped different. I’m 14 155 pounds and 5′ 7. I play soccer, but I have those stubborn thighs! Eat healthy (: It works for me. With running 3 miles a day!
Woah girl you’re tall! Don’t worry though, you’re actually pretty healthy for being that tall with that weight. Like Mary said, just stay active and eat healthy. I play volleyball, soccer, track, eat pretty healthily, and I’m 5’10, 145 pounds. You’re fine, don’t worry about weight, just keep a healthy lifestyle (:
Oh I’m 15 btw lol
personally I think that 140-150 is a normal weight for someone your height. I’m only 5’1 so my average weight SHOULD be lower than yours. Also, remember that muscle weighs more than fat so really, instead of worrying about the number on the scale, think about how you feel, health-wise and self-esteem.
Actually I do have someone that looks just like me, my identical twin sister
I love this sentiment! There is the saying, you can’t love someone else until you can love yourself. This is so true. All these negative things we think about ourselves hurt our relationships. Here is a link from my blog with some instant self-esteem/body image boosters. I know they work, because I’ve been using them! – http://www.theloveinhereyes.com/2012/04/16/one-week-to-feel-beautiful/
