Birthdays can be really awesome. After all, celebrating the day you were born is the one day of the year where everyone’s attention should be on you. Oh yeah, and presents, obviously. There are some people who count down to their birthdays every year and plan elaborate celebrations… and then there are other people who prefer to keep it quiet.
So, which are you? Do you love your birthday, or has it been nothing but a headache the last few years? We want to know all about what you do on your b-day and more. 3. How did you celebrate your last birthday? Um… I didn’t really. We had a family “party” where we eat cake and talk about how cute my little cousins are getting, but that’s about it.
4. How do you want to celebrate your next birthday? I want to have a sleepover with some of my close friends. I think it would be totally awesome to have an ’80s themed party, but I don’t know if I have any friends that would actually be as interested in it as I am. I could see myself watching The Goonies and Pretty in Pink all by myself in my shoulder-padded party dress.
5. Do you have any special birthday traditions? We always have family come over. We eat brownies or cake, and my Mom’s side of the family has a tradition of singing “many birthdays to you” after the traditional “happy birthday” song.
6. Do you like your b-day or do you hate it? It depends. In theory, I love my birthday, but in execution, it can be just as good or bad as any other day.
7. What has been your favorite birthday so far? In third grade I invited over a bunch of people and we watched the newly-released Holes and drew on each other with tattoo markers. Then we ended the night by having a “seance” and singing into a fan. Fun times.
8. Is there an age you’re really excited to be? 21. ONLY because then I’ll finally be able to go see concerts with my mom in the venue at Wendover.
9. What age are you really not looking forward to? Um… anything that I’m not right now. X) I feel old, even though I know that’s a complete absurdity.
10. Imagine your dream birthday: how would it go? ’80s themed night! It would magically be summer weather in the middle of fall. Everyone would show up wearing poof-y sleeves and shoulder pads, and all of the guys would look appropriately ridiculous. We’d have a dance party with pizza and clear Pepsi in my backyard, to the popular music and then I’d break out my Madness CD and everyone would initially be confused but love it anyway. We’d watch The Goonies and gush over how awesome all of the characters are, and how cute Brand is. We’d talk about how we all wished we could be like Data when we were little (or was that just me?). And we’d end the night when my parents had gone to bed with an awkward game of spin the bottle. And it would be totally awesome!
11. What’s the best birthday present you’ve ever gotten? A Remington Quiet-Riter typewriter from the 1950s! It’s green and has its own velvet-interior case and it is *amazing*.
12. What about the worst? Perfume. I’m not a perfume type of person.
13. Have you ever had a surprise party thrown for you? Nope. However, at color guard practice on my birthday a few years ago, one of my now-best-friends covered the color guard locker in crepe paper and presents (including a picture of a puppy and some green electrical tape) and secretly got everyone to write a note in a birthday card. That was incredibly sweet.
14. What present do you want for your next birthday? A Pizza John T-shirt.
15. Would you rather have cake, cupcakes or ice cream for your b-day? Ice cream!
16. Who’s birthday did you celebrate last (friends or family)? My aunt Andrea. She’s awesome.
17. Do you wish you had a different b-day? I often wish I could have my birthday earlier in the year, so I’d still have warm outdoorsy weather. However, I like that it’s exactly two weeks before Halloween, so whatevs.
18. Have you ever bought yourself a birthday present? Kind of. Our family does the whole “you’ll get this for the next gift-giving holiday” thing while shopping, and I’m fine with it. At least I get what I want!
19. Would you rather celebrate your birthday with a few close friends or have a huge party? A “few close friends” looks like a huge party if it’s in my house, so an actual huge party is not that possible.
