Sitting like this can help your chatter flow more freely. | Source: Shutterstock
Ask questions. No one likes talking about anything more than they like talking about themselves. Keep it light–ask about his hobbies, favorite band, favorite trip he’s ever taken. If he’s polite and smart, he’ll be stoked to hear whatever stories you share, too.
Just avoid gossip (you don’t want to appear catty) and never ever bring up your exes on a first date–otherwise it’ll feel like your old flames are there on the date with you. And that’s lame!
A good way to keep it from feeling like an interview? Sit side by side instead of across from one another. It’s romantic and takes off the pressure that a lot of awkward first dates present!

This or That
After the first date, how would you let the guy know you’re not interested without being harsh?
I would actually always recommend sitting across from each, sitting next to each other is not average and really awkward for the other person however if there is a big group then you can sit next to your date like in a booth.
agree! so you do not have to turn your head to look at him. lol
Actually, there’s a scientific study that shows that guys tend to feel more close to a girl when talking side by side, while girls tend to feel more close by talking face to face. So, if you really like the guy and want to be with him you better sit side by side.
