The bag in question. Porn? Not EVEN! | Source: ReForm School
Yesterday, we published an article about girls feeling pressured to remove all their down-there hair (you should read it, it’s pretty great!). We were proud of it and wanted to share, so we linked to it on Facebook with a picture of a tote bag showing the evolution of pubic hair styles through the years. We thought it was funny, and the drawings on the tote bag were super simplistic–the kind you see in your 8th grade sex ed text book. Some of you even commented to say that you loved the bag. Great!
What WASN’T so great was when I woke up this morning, went to login, and got a notification that someone had flagged that image as porn on Facebook! Porn! Since when is a line drawing of a woman’s body–not doing anything sexual at all, just being there–pornographic?! Moreover, I’ve seen people post vacation pictures from Italy on Facebook, where they’re posing next to the famously nude statue David, and nobody seems to have a problem with that. Why is it that David’s junk considered fine, whereas a drawing of a woman’s genital area (it’s art, too!) is considered to be porn on Facebook?
Maybe it’s because we’re women, and as much as it sucks, our bodies are almost always seen as sexual objects–whether we’re engaging in sexy times or not. Am I pissed off? Yes. Does this make me want to fight even harder against sexism and stereotypes about women? HELL YEAH!
If you’re with me, and think it’s ridiculous that we got accused of putting porn on Facebook, say so in the comments below. And if you’re not, well, let me know why. I’m really eager to hear what all of you guys think–so shout it out!
Also, if you love the tote bag a ton, you can buy it right here. In my view, the more people carrying around this “pornographic” bag, the better!

total not porn at all Im a guy and i think this is stupid iv seen pics way more erotic than this on face book and nobody flags them to flag a bag with a silly drawing on it means u have nothing better in life to do than make other people miserable and piss em off
im sorry to hear that this happend
The things people do… This is downright absurd. Your average heterosexual man is absurd; he’ll spend eons of time on facebook staring at bikini clad women on vacation but this he suddenly finds wrong. Oh, patriarchal double standards, aren’t you just a darling. (also I’m being presumptious here because I refuse to believe a woman would flag it as porn, irregardless of orientation)
Melanie I have found facebook pages that have porn on the front pics there are younger kids who might see those pages. What you posted was nothing for anyone to be concerned about instead of reporting that pic they should have reported the public porn pages I have seen.
Actually i reported a picture once , but it was because a woman posted a picture of her vagina (and other lady parts) on FB , i still get the jitters when i think about it . That bag is pretty funny , i would totally wear it for kicks.
)
jajaja I’ve seen worse pictures that that on facebook and they don’t get banned. the pictures that really should be banned is the ones of all those girls that take photos almost naked and ask you for a like.
Wooow! Haha porn?? Not really.. I definitely would go everywhere with that artwork if it was on a backpack!! I don’t like tote bags, but totally cool art =) my boyfriend’s family (including his mom) calls me Porn Boobs but none of them nor I find it offensive.. we just laugh it off because the name is a label that would be given to me by now-a-days’ society…. I love my bf and his family =D
Woow. Thats messed up! Its our bodies. And it is art!! Every woman is created a little bit different we shouldnt have to hide our vajayjays if its in an art form. But alot of girls my age are useing thier bodies asa way to get guys like posting pics in bras and underwear.. or hella sexy inapropriate pics. I would say that thats more pornagraphic then the bag. God. People are just immature.
definitely not porn…we women are beautiful!
Omg LIKEEEE WTFFFF!!!!!!!!
You know, normally I’m not all for some of the super femme things on gurl. But heck yeah, it’s not porn, and facebook needs to learn the difference. F*** the zuck.
So not porn! I’ve seen actual picture of people having sex on Facebook and that’s never been flagged. People have such the wrong impression. A woman’s body should be celebrated!
How STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RIDICULOUS!!! That is absolutely outrageous! I bet it was someone’s uptight mom, or an older generation person! I would buy one of those bags, and use it all the time. It would crack me up when people got offended. I would be like “Suck it up”
Facebook has also been removing pictures women have posted of their mastectomy scars as pornographic…
That is utterly ridiculous! I’ve seen things on Facebook that are 100 times more offensive. That tote is just funny social commentary. I approve!
that is ridiculous! it doesnt make since that that statue is ok, but not a simple drawing of a womens body! i am totally POed.
Ridiculous! NOT porn. People are so uptight about the human body. Pfft..they need to get over it.
