We all need role models and these days they get harder and harder to come by. Luckily for us we have the lovely Emma Stone.
There aren’t many people in Hollywood that are just so freaking likable the way she is. We won’t even list her movies–OK, we’ll list some of them–Easy A, Superbad, The Help and now The Amazing Spider-Man.
Amazing being the key word here because that’s basically what Emma is–amazing! So here are five ways to feel amazing straight from Emma’s lips to our ears.
Go For It
Emma’s parents were not necessarily stoked about her wanting to be an actress at an early age. Even the coolest parents wouldn’t jump for joy when they hear their daughter wants to drop out of high school. Sometimes not taking no for an answer does work. When Emma was fourteen she made a PowerPoint presentation set to the music of Madonna’s “Hollywood” to convince them she should pursue her dreams. “I was trying to prove the point that I needed to move to Hollywood and be an actor in movies,” she told BlackBook, “Yeah, I guess it is pretty crazy that I’m actually able to do that now.”
Never Give Up
Emma told Vanity Fair about losing the role of Claire Bennet on Heroes to Hayden Panettiere, “I could hear that, in the other room, a girl had just gone in and they were saying, ‘You are our pick … On a scale of 1 to 10 you’re an 11.’ I went home and just had this meltdown.” And we’d totally feel bad for her, but we kind of know what happened after that. She didn’t give up and look at her now!
Never Give In (To Absurd Hollywood Pressures)
We love this. While Emma was working on the set of The Help she gained a few pounds and her outfits had to be re-tailored. Emma said in an interview with S Magazine, “Suddenly nothing fit me, but then they have such delicious food in the South and I don’t believe in depriving yourself. Yes, you should be healthy and take care of yourself, but growing up I’ve seen people who have horrible issues with food. I haven’t worked out for a month and I’m proud of it!”
Embrace (All Of) Yourself
OK. So not all of us can looks as good in every single hair color, but Emma has been down with all of her looks from glam to geek. When asked how she felt about wearing braces and glasses throughout her entire childhood she told Elle, “And I sucked my thumb until I was 11, so I had this expander in. I was a good-looking kid. I never felt, like, dorky. I was just like, ‘Yup, these are my braces. I’ve had them forever.’”
Keep It All In Perspective
Yes, Emma is everywhere. (Yes, we’re totally envious.) Even for someone who seems to cover every single awesome adjective (smart, charming, total babe, funny, etc.) it’s important to stay down to earth. So of course, Emma is modest too. “I’ll remember this time and look back on it fondly, but I don’t expect it to last forever. There’s a million other incredibly wonderful girls that are much more talented than me that are out there all the time. So I’m just trying to appreciate it for what it is,” she told the A.V. Club, “. . . Being able to work on projects that I love and care about has been the greatest gift ever, and that’s been a pretty recent thing in my life. But success for me at some point will probably be having a family.”
Follow all of those tips and voila, you’ll be as amazing as Emma Stone. Or at least on your way to her level of amazingness.
