I’ve had my hair at many different lengths over the years, from long enough to touch my butt to short enough to be boy hair. After all of this, I’ve gotten used to peoples’ criticism about short hair–I’ve been called everything from “Skrillex” to “dyke” to “parrot head”. After a while, I just decided that if I feel better in short hair, then it doesn’t matter what other people think. And I do feel better in short hair! I feel free, and I feel like I’m myself. With long hair, it’s almost like I’m hiding, and I’m a different person. I love having short hair.
This comic has made my decision to cut my hair again! I got a pixie cut a year ago & I loved it so much, & now it’s growing into a bob (I’m black, too, & I got it cut once after) & I feel pressured by everybody around me to grow it out but NO MORE. I have a hair appointment set for the Sunday before school & I have the option to cut again, so I will! Thanks, Kaylani!<3

I used to have long blonde hair, all the way down to my waist. I was really proud of not cutting it for seven whole years. Then, I was going on a boat trip to get my rescue diving certification, and I remembered my first diving trip two years earlier where my hair got matted and formed these nasty dreadlocks, so i hacked it all off in one fell swoop and never went back.
Lol!! Funny comic. I can totally relate. I’m a little older (college) and a white chick, but i (had) the same thick, curly, dark hair. People would always tell my how much they loved it and wished they had it. It wasn’t until I moved out on my own last fall. I never had hair shorter than bra strap length. I went into the salon near campus on a hot day and said I wanted short… sooo nervous. The stylist went through 3 different stages until we settled on a short bob. Like guy short in the back (clippers… eeek!) and longer bangs. I have since gone shorter with a pixie style. It has been so great this summer and I’ll never go back to long hair!! I have also gotten more attention from the guys with short hair than long~~!!
(im white) and when i was born i literally needed a hair cut!! i had a full head of hair! it is SOOOOOOOOOOO thick!! i decided 2 grow out my bangs and it got past my chest! 0.o lols my hair was pretty long then i went 2 the hair place and got 4 inches off! now it looks like my bffs and it so short its prettier i think! im keepin it! SCREW YOU POPULARS!!! <3
I cut mine June 2011 & Ive gotten wayyyy more compliments than ever before when it was short! Im black too btw : ) my hairstyles usually get compared to that of Rihanna & Keri Hilson. This guy even started singing “Ms. Keri baby!” When Id walk by lolol. I wasnt scared to cut my surprising tho. Probably because I have previously worn wigs so.& my stylist tried to get me to not cut it alll off at once. So I didnt. Then I went back the next day & got it cut how I originally wanted it. My short hair is my favorite style yet!!
I feel the same way about my hair my friends keep telling me its pretty but i felt like all anybody saw was the black girl with long hair. I am so much more so i got the scissors one day and started cutting
I didn’t like my hair. It was too rough, so last summer I cut my hair. I cut it to less than half an inch. Almost everybody I knew kept asking me why I cut my hair, even people I didn’t know asked me why. They were like “You look pretty with the long hair”. So now I look like an ugly beast because you don’t agree with my decision?? Ok. Well, people, it’s just hair, I mean everybody acts like I cut my legs off or something. Whatever. It grows out of MY scalp, it’s MY hair. If you don’t like it, keep your comments to yourself because I couldn’t care LESS.
I hated long hair so much, my mom forced me too grow it out. It grew up too my shoulders and I decided I wanted to cut my hair, I went to the salon and told the hair stylist to do what they wanted with my hair as long as it was short. They cut it up to a little big higher than my chin, put highlights in it and gave me bangs. My friends didn’t recgonize me at first, but when they got used to it they started to cut it as well. I was finally glad i did what I wanted to do, now i feel beautiful and confident. Gurls out there, do what YOU want to do, after all it is gonna be you who has the short hair, not anyone else.

I have my hair about an inch above my shoulders now and it looks fine- but I want short hair! It’s so cute, but I have a chubbier face so it wouldnt look too great in me…
I am the SAME way!!! I’m black and my hair is super long and thick, and i hate it sometimes and want to cut it allll off but people tell me to keep it since it’s pretty. It has split ends and crap just like yours!
Haha, I can totally relate to this comic! I can’t tell you how many combs I’ve broken in my hair because it’s so hard and thick. I want to cut my hair short but my mom is one of those “girls have long hair” kind of people so I just stick to braids.
I disagree with the stereotype that long hair is all thats beautiful and short hair is “butch” or boyish. I find short hair on girls much more attractive then long hair, for one thing, and it depends solely on that person and their confidence in that style. Do what you want with your hair, and any aspect of your looks It’s your choice to make.
