And In my own personal television dream world, all of my favorite ’90s shows would be back on TV. But since that will never happen, I’d settle for the next best thing: updated versions of my old faves. How cool would it be to see today’s celebrities recreating old shows? Pretty freakin’ cool.
So I’ve decided to recast Clarissa Explains It All with new stars who I think would make an updated version of the show just as great as the original. Check it out and let us know who you would cast in this show if you could. Now, if only Nickelodeon would listen to this…
Bella Thorne as Clarissa Darling
Okay, so maybe Bella doesn’t look exactly like Melissa Joan Hart, but I could still totally see her taking the lead role – Clarissa would just be a red-head this time around! Bella has the same cute, fun and slightly quirky vibe that Melissa had as Clarissa. Plus, Bella is awesome in Shake It Up, and I’d love to see her starring in one of the best ’90s TV shows ever.
Nolan Gould as Ferguson Darling
Nolan could absolutely play Clarissa’s nerdy but adorable, annoying but still lovable younger brother. He already does an awesome job playing the troublemaking little bro in Modern Family, so he’s obviously the perfect choice. He even has the reddish hair down. You might as well change his name to Ferg-Face right now, because Nolan’s got this in the bag.
Jake T. Austin as Sam Anders
Jake has grown up a lot since he first started on Wizards of Waverly Place (which I still kind of miss), and now he could definitely play Sam, Clarissa’s adorably goofy best friend. And not only does Jake resemble the original Sam a little bit, but I can totally see him climbing through Clarissa’s bedroom window without looking creepy.
Ellie Kemper as Janet Darling
Let’s be real, Janet was a pretty awesome mom. She was always there for Clarissa and always had the best motherly advice. I mean, yeah, she was a little wacky, but she was still great. Which is exactly why I think Ellie would be great for the role – she might play goofy characters everywhere else, but I think she would be a perfect fit in this fictional family.
David Koechner as Marshall Darling
You might not know David by name, but you’d definitely know him from his movie roles – Anchorman and The 40-Year-Old Virgin, to name a few. He’s hysterical, but he could also totally play the strict dad role. Plus, Marshall was once a hippie – and I can definitely see David playing a retired hippie. Definitely.
Zendaya as Olivia DuPris
I know, I know… I already used a Shake It Up star. But seriously, Zendaya would be perfect as the role of Olivia, one of Clarissa’s BFF’s. I mean, we already know that she and Bella are super close, so it’s pretty much the best match ever.
If you could recast Clarissa Explains At All, which celebrities would you pick? Do you agree with my choices? Let us know in the comments.

Besides Jake T. Austin, all I have to say is:
…WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?!
No one, and I mean NO ONE, could ever replace Sam. EVER.
Oh, god, I used to have the biggest crush on him.

what guy did you have a crush in
It took me reading this entire article to realize that this wasn’t referring to Sabrina The Teenaged Witch.
Um, wouldn’t the chick you want playing the mom to look reasonable age-wise? Because the woman you have chosen looks more ‘young aunt’ than mom.
i don’t think bella thorne would be the best for this remake as clarissa, but in general i think this is an awesome idea!
