My First Vibrator: A Love Story

Sex shop signMy friends and I had visited before on late nights when we were bored (or curious!), so I knew where the toys were, and had already picked the one I wanted: it was $9.99 and dark purple with a slightly glittery sheen. After looking at other toys and staying with my decision to buy a cheap one with a color I liked, I brought it up to the counter. I plunked down cash, trotted back to my car, and drove back to school.

I had to wait until afternoon, when my roommate was in class, to take my new toy for a spin. And thank you Dr. Barbach for the excellent idea: vibrators rule! My first vibrator taught me so much about my body, what I like, what I should ask partners to do, and the best surprise: I don’t have to stop at just one orgasm, or two…or even three. I was much more confident when I returned to the store for a second vibrator, have been able to talk about sex more openly with friends, and was able to feel better about myself when it came to me and sex.

Also? I got a better boyfriend. Basically? My first vibrator changed my life.

Are you interested in sex toys? Have you gotten your first vibrator? Do you think you’d be comfortable buying one? Tell me everything in the comments!

My mom bought me my first vibrator when I was 11…and I was
Confused about the aspect so I just lost it. A couple years later, me and my mom went on a trip and we started talking about sex. She told me she would buy me another dildo so I wouldn’t have sex yet.

Hi! I’m actually thinking of purchasing one lately – just a small bullet, nothing extravagant. Horribly undecided, though, as I haven’t had sex yet… Reading your article, I suppose you’d recommend it?

I’d recommend you check out some ‘female friendly sex stores’ online. There’s a list that you can choose from. I’ve personally used She Bop, Eden Fantasys, and Good Vibrations–all good results. Check those out.

Hello, name’s Mika I’m 20 now, I’m a virgin(though I broke my hymen when I was younger, I was stupid and didn’t know what I was doing. lol), and well I’m a bit curious about buying a toy, but I really don’t know if I should buy one or not. I’m a bit scared about what would happen if my mother found out. (We talk about everything, I even told her when I was around what 15 or 16? That I masturbate.), anyways, anyone know a way on how I should approach this topic with my mother? And, well I’m a bit scared with all of that but also curious about it.

Hi, I think that you shouldn’t be too afraid to approach your mother about this subject because you both have talked about it years back–she would know that this will become a normal process in your life, right? Seeing that you’re most afraid of her finding out, and you talk to her about everything; I think casually talk to her about this purchase wouldn’t hurt.
