My First Vibrator: A Love Story

Hello Kitty Vibrator Could Be Your First Vibrator

Yup. There's even a Hello Kitty vibrator! | Source

My sophomore year in college, I was hanging with a bunch of friends and the guys started discussing, in depth, masturbating overhand vs. underhand. Graphically. This went on for a couple minutes until I turned to a girlfriend and said, “So, how do you play the slots?” And the boys FREAKED. OUT. I was confused: these were generally liberal, laid-back guys, and suddenly, with the mention of women masturbating, they were acting like fifth graders. It got me thinking a ton about the double standards around masturbation, and inspired my totally unexpected foray into sex toys.

Mildly obsessed with the issue, I went looking for information and found an awesome book by Lonnie Barbach, PhD’s For Yourself: The Fulfillment of Female Sexuality, which gives wonderful, empowering commentary on women’s bodies, masturbating and sex, and provides a fantastic resource for the first-time masturbator or women who have never had an orgasm–which I hadn’t (although my boyfriend had insisted he’d totally given me one. Um, if you have to CONVINCE your partner it happened, it definitely didn’t). Most interestingly, the book told me about vibrators and what a huge help they can be in helping women reach orgasm. It was too titillating to not check out for myself. I was going to get my first vibrator!

My college was near several shops that sold a variety of sex toys, so I went on a secret mission one sunny mid-morning to purchase myself a little somethin’-somethin’.

I know I might sound pretty confident and worldly or whatever, but let me tell you: I was paranoid. I didn’t want anyone to know what I was up to: I watched to see if cars came into the store’s lot after me, took my school’s parking placard down, and checked my side mirrors before I got out of the car, just in case I knew someone from school who had arrived without my noticing and was walking past. With the coast clear, I dashed into the store in search of the first vibrator I’d ever own.

My friends and I had visited before on late nights when we were bored (or curious!), so I knew where the toys were, and had already picked the one I wanted: it was $9.99 and dark purple with a slightly glittery sheen. After looking at other toys and staying with my decision to buy a cheap one with a color I liked, I brought it up to the counter. I plunked down cash, trotted back to my car, and drove back to school.

I had to wait until afternoon, when my roommate was in class, to take my new toy for a spin. And thank you Dr. Barbach for the excellent idea: vibrators rule! My first vibrator taught me so much about my body, what I like, what I should ask partners to do, and the best surprise: I don’t have to stop at just one orgasm, or two…or even three. I was much more confident when I returned to the store for a second vibrator, have been able to talk about sex more openly with friends, and was able to feel better about myself when it came to me and sex.

Also? I got a better boyfriend. Basically? My first vibrator changed my life.

Are you interested in sex toys? Have you gotten your first vibrator? Do you think you’d be comfortable buying one? Tell me everything in the comments!

Hearing people talk about vibrators and dildos has got me really curious. I discovered Masturbation when I was 11 and i haven’t stopped since, I’m 20 now. I’ve always used my palm against my mound/ clitoris and my fingers to stimulate myself and have always found the orgasms to be extreme and highly intense because i press really hard. But i once saw a long silver shiny thing that looked a bit like the end of a hair curler on my younger cousin sisters bed, only i later found it was a vibrator. i feel curious to get one too now but I’m not sure of if it will give the same results and hiding it from my mum who is very religious is a problem as she likes checking through my stuff and I’m worried she’ll find it. Also, i don’t know which one to get? i want one which has high intensity but looks classy, any recommendations ladies?

that’s not a hello kitty vibrator, it’s a massager for your neck and shoulders. I know because my mom got me one and it also has little notches on the tip that you can’t see in that pic, which would make it painful to put inside you. It does relieve the tension in my neck like a dream though! I want a g spot vibrator when I turn 18 next year because I have never had a g spot orgasm … but I want a small one like the butterfly kiss because I’m still a virgin.

Hun, that is a vibrator. It is for clitoral outside stimulation. Here’s a tip, “massager” is a secret key word used on a lot of things to avoid the term vibrator. Believe me the hitachi massaging wand is NOT frequented by women for mostly back massages.

I use the moveable shower head in my shower. If you don’t have one.. GET ONE!!!! I’m telling you, it’s the best way to orgasm. And get the kInd where you can change it to the jets because it goes harder and feels better. It’s like an automatic O. Magic, I tell you. Magic. Also I sometimes you my old electric toothbrush I used when I was a kid. No the actual toothbrush part. Use the end of it and it vibrates. Also magical. But nothing topps the shower head. That shit is fucking addictive. ADDICTIVE!! <3

I started mastrabating when I was 14 and it has really helped me love my self and be more comfortable talking to my friends about sex to but most of all it is pleasurable!!!! But I’m to scared to get toys cuz I’m so young and my mom wouldn’t allow that, so I use a chap stick container to do my stuff but does any body have any other ideas of what I can do or use because the chap stick tube is nice but I don’t orgasm as much any more ( I’m 15 now and would like to know some other imput thanks)!!!!!!!!!!!

At all the pharmacies I’ve gone to, in the condom/birth control/pregnancy test section (usually by the pharmacy prescription window), there are vibrators made by condom companies. I don’t remember what brand. The important thing is, you aren’t going to be carded for going to CVS or Rite Aid – have fun shopping!

      Hi Autumn,
I started around the same age as you did and now I’m 17. You could buy a body scrub with those plastic handles. This way you can buy it anywhere and you wouldn’t have to be scared that you might get caught. Also if you have a detachable shower head that feels great as well.
      Hope this helps~! =)

Omg I love sex toys! They feelso good! If you don’t have one it’s fine just rub your clit on a faucet or a movable shower head or whatever it’s called it’ll feel amazing. Or you can use an electric toothbrush use the handle. Or just just a regular toothbrush but wash before and after so you won’t get an infection. It’s a natural and main thing of life.

I bought my first vibrator when I was in college too! I did not know how to use it or how to touch myself. When I finally got it down, I was simply amazed and was able to tell my fiance what I want him to do to make me have that amazing feeling. I think that every girl should get one.
