Mother’s Day is coming up and what better way to show just how much you appreciate mom than by making a difference? Jodie Foster, Matt Damon and Water.org have teamed up for a new campaign Honor Your Mother, Honor Another that we’re super excited to share with you. All you have to do is send your mom a Water.org e-card and make a small donation to tell your mom how cool she is and transform the life of another’s.

Water.org was founded by Matt Damon and Gary White to assist developing nations in Africa, South Asia, and Central America by providing communities with safe water and sanitation.

I hate to state the obvious but . . . we all NEED water to live! Not just survive but to complete basic daily tasks like going to the bathroom, showering, and washing our clothes. Can you imagine not having any clean water for even a week? Unfortunately many people in developing nations aren’t afforded even the most basic necessity of clean water. Often water is difficult to find or, even worse, contaminated with diseases that are often fatal.

Here are some facts from Water.org that should get you thinking!

* One billion people don’t have access to clean water.

* 2.5 billion people don’t have access to a toilet.

* Every 20 seconds a child dies from a water related illness

* Women spend 200 million hours a day collecting water.

* More than 3 times more people lack water than live in the United States!

You can empower women to change their communities. Your donation provides better education, health, and economic opportunities for the mothers and daughters who risk their lives each day without access to clean water.
