Flashback: 11 Movies From The ’90s We Wish Would Be Remade

Some of my favorite movies ever came out of the ’90s (one word: Clueless)… and I know I’m not alone. Yeah, some really great movies have come out in the last few years, but do any of them really compare with your all-time faves from your childhood? I could re-watch these movies every week and not get sick of them.

As much as I love these classics, I would also love to see them be re-made with new stars, new special effects and even an updated story line. Now, in my opinion, none of the remakes would ever top the originals (not possible)… but they could possibly come in a close second. Check out amazing movies from the ’90s we wish would be remade today and let us know, which is your favorite?

Now and Then

Four girls spending one crazy summer together? This is one of the best coming-of-age movies ever and I know I’m not the only one who watched it obsessively at sleepovers. And while the original cast was amazing, I can see four young stars taking over and putting a different spin on things: Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, Elle Fanning and Shailene Woodley.

Clueless

Not going to lie, nothing can make this movie better than it already is (in my opinion, at least). Clueless is epic – it’s been over 10 years since it was made, and it’s still on most people’s favorite movie lists. And who else attempted to pull off the knee socks trend? Not many stars could step into Cher’s fabulous shoes, but I think I could see Blake Lively being pretty good in the role.

Fight Club

Yes, Fight Club was super violent and a little confusing, but it was also a really, really great movie. After watching it, it always seems to make people really consider what they’re doing with their lives – and movies that make you think a little can be pretty great. Brad Pitt was obviously the perfect choice for this role, and an actor from today who I could see playing it would be Ryan Gosling, for sure.

Girl, Interrupted

Girl, Interrupted sort of made going to a mental hospital look kind of cool… at least, for a little while. It’s actually based on a true story, which makes the whole story even more insane. If this was remade today, I could totally see Kristen Stewart stepping in to take over Winona Ryder’s role, and Rooney Mara playing Angelina Jolie’s part.

Pretty Woman

Pretty Woman is the ultimate fairy-tale story – a kinda messed up girl being rescued by a kinda messed up dude–and then she rescues him right back and … and they live happily ever after. Okay, a little gag-worthy, but even if you hate the idea, you have to admit this is a good movie. If anyone could take over Julia Roberts‘ role, it would have to be her own flesh and blood: Emma Roberts!

Never Been Kissed

Who wouldn’t love to go back in time and do high school all over again?! I mean, I know I would. Drew Barrymoore gets that chance in Never Been Kissed, and she makes being ‘Josie Grossie’ look totally cool. Drew did an amazing job, but I could Emma Stone being just as lovably goofy.

The Craft

This movie manages to be really creepy and really awesome. I used to watch it with my friends, and afterwards we would all pretend we were witches. How awesome would it be if some new stars put a new spin on this? I could totally see roles going to Chloe Moretz, Lucy Hale, Jennifer Lawrence and Nina Dobrev.

Free Willy

Okay, I might be a sucker for any movie that involves an animal as one of its main characters, but anyone can appreciate Free Willy, whether they’re into animals or not. I know there are a few of these (although I stopped watching after the first one), but I’d love if it was remade again. It’s hard to think of a young boy who’s famous right now who could be good – so couldn’t you see them doing this with someone older, like Josh Hutcherson? So cute!

Can’t Hardly Wait

Party movies are always so much fun, especially when they revolve around the last day of high school. You would need some super fun actors to pull off this movie, and I could totally see Nina Dobrev playing Amanda – with Jonah Hill thrown in there somewhere.

She’s All That

This movie was so ridiculous, but at the same time, so amazing. Whenever I see it on TV, I can’t turn it off! Yeah, the plot line might be a little played out, but it still doesn’t get old. I could see Megan Fox as the popular girl, Amanda Seyfried as the ‘nerd’ girl, and Zac Efron as the popular guy.

Cruel Intentions

Cruel Intentions is weird, a little sad, a little dark… and really good. In the end, it’s actually kind of a sweet love story – in it’s own way. Who would star in the new remake? Definitely Rachel McAdams taking over Reese Witherspoon’s role, Robert Pattinson taking over Ryan Phillippe, and Mila Kunis instead of Sarah Michelle Gellar.

10 Things I Hate About You

Who doesn’t love this movie?! Most people don’t realize that it’s actually based on The Taming of the Shrew by Shakespeare. Can’t you just see Kristen Stewart as Cat and James Franco as the leading man? I can.

Which of these movies was your favorite? Who would you like cast in the remakes? Tell us in the comments!
