Meet Cherri Bomb: A New Generation Of Rockers

L to R: Julia, Nia, Miranda, Rena

Meet the four mega talented musicians from the all-girl, metal rock band Cherri Bomb. Julia (lead vocals & guitar), Miranda (guitar), Nia (drums), and Rena (bass) are Los Angeles’ newest generation of rock and roll. They’re a bite-sized cross between The Runaways, Paramore, and The Pretty Reckless. We’re stoked to see where these ladies are headed in the next couple of years.

When the girls’ average age was just 13 years old, Cherri Bomb signed a recording contract with Hollywood Records–making them the youngest act on the label! Not only impressive, but pretty bad ass. To add to the epicness, they’ve opened for the Foo Fighters–yes, they’ve hung with Dave Grohl, Filter, and the Smashing Pumpkins (Umm, how old are they again?).

We can totally relate to being the punky-alternative girl in high school so nothing excites us more than chicks playing their own instruments, writing their own songs, and fearlessly being a little different. We gave the Los Angeles-based quartet our Big Gurl Ten and the rocker chicks dished on their best advice from Gavin Rossdale (Mr. Gwen Stefani himself), chainsaws, A.D.D., and of course, Josh Hutcherson.

Just being a teenage bad ass. NBD

1. What’s your worst date story?
Miranda: One time I went on a date with this guy and after a while, I pretended to feel sick so I wouldn’t have to make conversation anymore. Whoops.
Julia: Let me get back to you on that if I’m ever on the show “Disaster Date”.
Nia: Being walked in on while you’re making out. Ugh, horrible and embarrassing. Did you ever hear of knocking?
Rena: I’ve never been on a date, but when i do, it’s gonna be awesome.

2. If you could have one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Miranda: Mac and cheese. That’s pretty much all I eat anyway.
Julia: Nutella. ANYTHING with Nutella.
Nia: Indian food! I love it!
Rena: Pickles!!!!!

3. Whose phone number do you wish you had?
Miranda: Paul McCartney’s. But I’ll take anyone else’s, as long as they’re cute.

Miranda: A baby grand piano and a black guitar with a big yellow Batman logo on it.

Rena: I want a chainsaw.

5. What’s your secret nickname?
Miranda: Some of my close friends call me Panda.
Julia: I don’t have one.
Nia: Sza or Szazu. My mom and dad call me that.
Rena: Reenie.

6. What’s the guiltiest pleasure on your iPod?
Miranda: Britney Spears’s Greatest Hits album. I know every word.
Julia: NONE! I’m very proud of my taste in music!
Nia: Steel Panther because they’re slightly older than me… but I’m not really feeling ALL that guilty.
Rena: I’m not embarrassed by anything on my iPod.

7. Best advice you ever got?
Miranda: Wear deodorant on the tour bus.
Julia: The best advice I’ve gotten was from a quote by Jon Kabat Zinn that says: “You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.”
Nia: Don’t take any wooden nickels.
Rena: Gavin Rossdale from Bush told us to stay as cool as we are and always be humble because it’s disarming and people don’t expect it. Great advice!!

Miranda: I love finding really cute shoes at thrift or vintage stores.
Julia: Getting designer-name clothes for cheap at Buffalo Exchange!
Nia: Gas mask.
Rena: SHOES!

Awesome!! Should check out Stonefield, they’re like the Aussie version, but with a more Led Zeppelin/Wolfmother influence. Great to see some amazing girl bands! They’re just getting better

I was reading GL Magazine (Girl’s Life Magazine) today, and I saw a little interview with Cherri Bomb. I thought it was pretty coincidental, what with the recent articles on this very band on this very site. So… Is there someone adding to this site that also works for GL? I could totally see that–the mag is totes awesome like this site! :)
