Back in high school, I mostly tuned out the parade of lame, cliche motivational speakers we had come and speak–enough with the talking cop car, D.A.R.E. officer–except for one. He said that a wise man doesn’t learn from his own mistakes, but from the mistakes of others. For some reason, that always stuck with me, and rings in my ears whenever I hear about the latest antics from once-awesome pop star turned epic screw up, Chris Brown.
Let’s be honest: Chris is one horrendous mistake after another. His newest public fiasco? He’s promoting what seems to be a puppy mill. Dude, first you hit a girl, and now you go after puppies?! What’s next, sexually harassing unicorns? Ugh.
But just because CB is a trainwreck the likes of which humanity has never seen doesn’t mean we can’t learn a few things from him. Check it out…
1) Avoid Minor Drama
We all have our less-than-dignified moments, from a public screaming match with your BF to throwing up on the limo driver after prom. If you’re looking to leave your rock-bottom moments behind, avoid getting involved in scandals now. Chris wants people to see him in a new light but how can we when he’s turning into Michael Vick 2.0?
2) Think Before You Tweet!
You can do a lot of damage in 140 characters! Chris sets the bar super high for over-the-top awful Tweets, like the one where he mocked a member of B2K for being molested as a child or one telling “haters” to F-off after his Grammy win. You may not reach such unimaginable levels of douchebaggery with your own Twitter page, remember that you can’t unring the bell. You may delete a nasty, embarrassing or TMI tweet, but once your followers see it, the damage is already done.
3) Take Responsibility For Your Mistakes
Instead of, say, throwing chairs through windows at Good Morning America because reporters dare to ask you about them! You may want people to forgive and forget, but that’s not something you can control. The quickest way to repair your rep is to sincerely apologize and own up to your wrongdoings.
4) Keep Your Cool
Confession: I’m kind of a hothead. If someone gets up in my face it’s all I can do not to get all scratchy and bitey and kicky. But I don’t. Beceause no matter how nasty the other person is, I’m the bad guy if I let things turn physical–and that’s the way it should be. Violence is for people who are too stupid to think of another way to deal with life.
Even more stupid? Those weirdo girls who write things like, “Chris Brown could abuse me any day!” Notice he never writes back to say, “Hey girls—love that you love me, but you shouldn’t let anyone—not even a dude like me—abuse you.” I mean, can you imagine how much good that would do for his rep? It would do So. Much. Good. But he’s too much of a dumbass to know that.
Is there anything else Chris Brown has taught us about how not to live our lives? Chime in in the comments!

I really did think this site was supposed to be positive, but now everything I read on here is extremely negative. I understand that this site is about feminism, but the fact that you’re male bashing on information you know nothing about is making the site look really bad. A Puppy Mill really? Well Chris’ dog had puppies, so he’s selling them, how is this wrong at all? If I recall Mike Vick made dogs fight, I don’t see how this is the same thing. And honestly, if somebody is provoking you, are you really going to just let them keep provoking you? I’m really beginning to think that this is more of a racial issue rather than the fact that he hit a girl or is selling his families puppies. Instead of talking about how bad of a guy Chris Brown is and how we can learn life lessons through his mistakes, how about someone takes him under their wing? And really, before you post an article anywhere, make sure you have the correct information!
Why does everyone keep bringing up his past…..he is trying to change but everyone keeps bringing up old stuff we all make mistakes so just drop it he hit a girl…..yea it’s bad but everyone knows at least one person gets beat on or beats on someone and you don’t bring it up in there face everyday of every hour
Demoni, physical abuse is NEVER okay. Perhaps you need to look back at the new articles that were released at the time, he beat her and threatened to kill her. That is not a mistake. That is a serious problem. He did make a public apology and claimed to have gotten treatment, which would have won him some favors, if he had not had any other incidents. However, Chris Brown continues to strike me as an arrogant hot-headed juvenile, for his repeated misbehavior. Fame is not an excuse, many stars manage to maintain their grace under pressure. If he was truly worth any praise, he would rise above his critics by carefully scrutinizing his behavior, instead of giving them more ammunition.
