The Gurl Crush of the Week is . . . Lisa Simpson!
OMG! Did you figure it out? I bet you had no idea a cartoon character could be recognized for real and prestigious awards! (We didn’t either.) Lisa Simpson’s animal friendly attitudes and brave actions to stop deforestation, animal cruelty and pollution have inspired generations of girls to do the same. Her sharp wit and strong convictions were acknowledged for bringing ‘green’ into the mainstream by Genesis and the Environmental Media Awards for “Ongoing Commitment.” We think it’s pretty cool that in The Simpsons a lot of the story lines change, but Lisa’s dedication to vegetarianism, activism, and Human Rights never does. In fact, when Paul McCartney was featured in the episode where Lisa becomes a vegetarian he would only guest star if the creators promised to never turn her back into a meat-eater!
Even when her family doesn’t exactly agree with her–d’oh!–she sticks to her beliefs and they eventually come around! That’s why our Gurl Crush of the Week is Lisa Simpson. She’s the smartest member of The Simpson family, a forward-thinking activist, and one pretty cool chick!
