Oh, menstrual cramps are the worst. They seriously, seriously are. For a pain that’s “normal,” (in other words, pain that doesn’t signify something being terribly wrong with your body,) they hurt like hell: much worse than someone who doesn’t get bad cramps (your annoyingly lucky friend, every guy you will ever meet for the rest of your life as long as you live) can truly understand. The pain can be so debilitating that sometimes you end up missing school, work, or fun social activities in favor of lying miserably on your bed, wishing you could cut out your own uterus. (Anyone who’s ever had truly bad cramps knows that’s not an exaggeration!)

The very worst thing about menstrual cramps is that they happen every single month, for the rest of your life. In other words, the future is pretty bleak if you don’t figure out an effective strategy for controlling the pain of cramps, rather than letting cramps control your life. What you need, my friend is menstrual cramps relief!

I’ve learned a lot of tricks to dealing with cramps over the years–so go to the next page to read all about them!

    For about 3 years I always have very very bad menstrual cramps that I cant even do nothing but cry. My legs always feel numb, even my head aches. Sometimes, there is the feeling that I’m electrified in my stomach area. I tried taking medicines but the pain wont subside. I had a feeling that maybe my cramps got worse because I have sex? I dont know what to do now…

    I am 19 years old and ever since I started my period back in middle school I have always had really bad cramps. But it seems to have gotten extremely worse! I wake up out of my dead sleep EVERY SINGLE TIME I start my period. It’s only on the first day but it seems the first day is enough pain for the whole menstrual cycle. My boyfriend and friends AND family always think i over exaggerate but as soon as the water works come and I can barley walk myself to the kitchen to get a glass of water they get the point.My friends tell me that I probably have something wrong and I haven’t been able to get pregnant like most girls my age, but im too much of a puss to go the doctor.

    I’m 15 and I have always suffered extreme cramps, to the point where I can’t do anything except take nurofen (the period pain specials) and curl up under my quilt. They’re either late or early but apparently that could be because of my depression and the stress I’m under, I’ve tried all sorts of things for my cramps in my nans health shop, but nothing ever seems to work, not even the tablets. I’ve never had sex either, people seem to ask whether I have or not. I spoke to a doctor over the phone (because I was embarrassed) but he said I was exaggerating and that was the end of it. I was hoping for some advice off anyone, I’m open to suggestions.

    I get really bad cramps, and I tried everything on this list.. Nothing worked.. Well working out kinda did but with 2 fractured hips I cant do much.. So my mom told me to try coffee, I tried to explain that I shouldn’t because of the caffeine and sugar but she told me to try anyway.. And waddya know.. I drank the coffee and the cramps went away… So that stuff about no coffee is pure crap…

      It’s different for everyone, it’s actually quite rude to say that when someone has clearly spent a while writing all this to help people like us get through stuff like this

    I can’t use a dildo

  10. avatarStorm1232 says:

    For me its starts off different every time. I mean once It was like the middle of the night, I’m sleep. and I mean ASLEEP. NOTHING COULD HAVE WOKEN ME UP! But then I started Cramping like crazy and it was 1 in the morning i didn’t get to sleep till like 5..even AFTER i took something for it. So I only had about 2 hrs of sleep until I had to get ready for school.

    When I have it won’t go I had it for 6 weeks

  12. avatarNightStar says:

    My number one thing I can’t survive my period without is Midol. now it’s a little expensive, but one box should last for several periods. it’s a worthwhile investment. When I take midol i don’t have cramps, no bloating, and i seldom get headaches, and it takes care of the back pain too. I use the extended relief personally, it lasts abt 10 to 12 hours and it’s a relief to know that while i’m taking them i am free from so many symptoms.

  13. avatarshane(im a girl) says:

    Before I started my period I used to have seriously bad stomach pains I just felt like curling up in a ball and dying and nothing made me feel better so now that I do have my period these cramps are nothing compared to what I used to have.

  14. avatarSara says:

    CORRECTION:

    Ibuprofen is NOT more effective than naproxen sodium and naproxen sodium is NOT Tylenol. The common American brand of naproxen sodium is Aleve. Naproxen sodium is way stronger than ibuprofen.

    Tylenol = acetaminophen (weak)
    Advil = ibuprofen (stronger)
    Aleve = sodium naproxen (strongest)

  15. avatarRosalie says:

    I have a good tip, take a few pain killers and lie down in the shower on your back and let the water pour on to your tummy, it works everytime for mee:)

  16. avatarLeah says:

    i have cramps that make me want to curl up in a ball and die, and i have a few things that work:

    at home, i take a long hot shower, just water, no actual washing; and i boil myself some jasmine tea and sit in bed with my knees up and hold the hot mug on my lap.

    at school or anywhere else, instead of taking pain killers, i find that magnesium supplements work fantastically and quickly!

    hope this helped!

  17. avataraqua says:

    i had serius cramps im 6th grade one day (gym was my first period of the day) and when i told the girl coach (we have 2) she said, “well you should have bought some pills for that” (but we couldnt afford any and i didnt know they existed) so she made me do sit-up, push-ups run and do jumping jacks with evryone else, and i only had 1 pad with me that day no extra one’s. so yah the wprst day of my life alll because of the girl coach.

    • avatarEmily says:

  18. avatarNikki says:

    I think what you two girls may have is called PMDD. I forget what exactly it stands for, but I’ve heard a from a lot of girls that had similar problems that birth control helps. My periods have always been hell except for the first two, maybe three years. I started at 11, and by like 13 they were awful and they just got worse. I did start on birth control around 15 or 16, and it helped at first but then it didn’t, so I just gave up on it. If you don’t have the $15 to spend on a special rubber bottle, just use like a small Coke or Pepsi bottle with hot water in it. I find that to be rather portable, even though you may get some weird looks. My luck with the portable heating pads has been sort of bad, I found they just sting like crazy, but I did use them on my knee, not cramps. Some semi-serious problems can cause horrible cramps, such as ovarian cysts and other things, but they’re nothing to worry about. I know there is a procedure to remove those things, but it’s a temporary fix and has some risks. I’m not a doctor, so your best bet would be to go to your family doctor or even talk to your mom about a gyno, even though it will be awkward. Hope I helped some!

    The same thing happens to me (except i didn’t go through the raping & day after pill incident, I’m really sorry that happened) but when i wear tampons there is very little blood & it will all come out at once. The 1st & second day I am usually puking all day because the pain is so bad & i get really dizzy, like i can barely walk dizzy. I have to lay down doing nothing for basically 2 days straight. & i can’t eat or anything. I think you should talk to your doctor, I’m going in a week to talk to mine..I can’t handle being in this much pain & im sure youre the same way if we’re having the same symptoms..

  20. avatarAllison says:

    Hey Im just wondering if you guys can help me out. Ive had my period since I was 9(15 now). As usual, it was crazy the first year or so but got better. When I was 13, I would have my period for about 3-4 days and no cramps. I was raped when I was 14 and had to take the day after pill to prevent pregnancy and ever since, my period has been hell. My cramps make me want to lay in bed all day and cry my eyes out. If I wear a tampon, nothing happens. Like…when I take it out there will be very little blood on it. Then I’ll pee and it will all come out. Its very heavy. I have nausea and diarrhea the first 1-2 days that I start. My period lasts for about 7-8 days now. I wanted to know if anyone else has gone through this? Do you think I should talk to a doctor about it?
