If you’ve been wondering where Lady Gaga has been the past few weeks, she has a very simple answer: she’s ignoring you and everyone else! The pop princess told Oprah that she’s been purposefully dialing back her social presence and insists that she won’t do anymore interviews “for a very long time.” Holy woah–it’s like Lady Gaga took a vow of silence!
“The latest thing I do is I don’t read a damn thing,” explained Gaga. “No press, no television. If my mom calls and says, ‘Did you hear about?’ I don’t want to know nothing about anything that is going on in relation to music. I shut it all off.”
Good for Gaga if she can actually take a big break from social media and tabloids. I’m not sure whether or not she’ll be able to stick to her word (or, um wordlessness?) but either way, her words of wisdom are making me think about how we all overshare a bit too much. I mean, does the world really need to know my thoughts on absolutely everything via Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, text, etc? In my mind–of course they do!–but in reality, there really probably are more important things to focus on than my daily sandwich choice or what I thought of last night’s Pretty Little Liars! Maybe there are some things that should be private, and stay that way. It’s called a personal life for a reason, right? Because it’s not public?
So regardless of how successful Gaga’s mission is, I’m thinking that disengaging from Facebook/Twitter/TV/the Internet (except for this site, DUH!) once in a while would be a pretty rad idea. Maybe I’ll devote every Sunday to a media-free me! Adding a little mystery to my life? I don’t see how that could be a bad idea at all.

I’ve toned down my facebook use a lot in the past year. I keep one account up just for my family, and have another one with a handful of people on it which I mostly use to just to vent and be silly. Before, I had hundreds of people on one facebook, and I began to realise I didn’t need all these people judging my random drunk statuses or why I think this video is so great and I don’t need everyone knowing details about my life like who I’m currently sleeping with, nor do I need people leaving catty remarks on my pictures and making sexy comments on my wall where my dad can see it. So I deleted virtually everyone. And I’m happy with that. It was becoming too much of an obsession.
As far as Lady Gaga goes, I’m sure all celebs need a break from the fame every once in a while and she would not be the first to do it.

I love Lady Gaga but I don’t get what she’s trying to prove. She is kinda odd sometimes (ex meat dress). I don’t use FB anymore, I could but something happened awhile ago involving one of my exes stealing pictures of me and putting them on FB. After that the police were involved and they forced my ex to take down his FB and all the pics, then my bf and I both deactivated our accounts, not wanting to deal with the drama. Before that though, I was on it ALL the time.
Haha wow, i NEVER use facebook or twitter or any of that stuff.. xD its just extremely boring to me and I can’t stand seeing people talk “lik dis, u no wut i mean?11?!11!!?” (not saying that everyone does that, but i know a lot that do ^_^”)
I would totally feel shut out from the world if i stopped tweeting and updating my status or checking out what others are saying lol..i grow and learn from Facebook, my EMAIL and Twitter too ha, when im falling behind in hw or assignments ill stop logging on for a day or two…partly because i like to let my notifications build up. ha its impossible for me lol Lady Ga Ga Help! :p
It’s really funny that this came up, because this week (Sunday-Sunday) I’m trying not to use facebook. It’s really hard! Right when I open my browser I hit ‘f’ and then realize what I’m doing. It will be a tough week for sure.
