We all have our favorite commercials–do you love the Old Spice Guy? The Geico gecko? We know the jingles by heart and can still sing along to most ads, even though we skip through most of them on Tivo!
But even the biggest commercial expert probably doesn’t know these super funny ads, because they’re not shown in America! Check them out–and who knows? You might have a new favorite commercial!
Things Get Hot With Nestea In Italy
This racy ad is one of those commercials that people still quote in Italy. A man, Antonio, and his insanely attractive girlfriend are lying in a sweltering room. “Antonio….it’s so hot,” she complains, unhappily. So he gets some iced tea to cool her down, and, well, see what happens.
George Clooney Loves His Nespresso In Europe!
I don’t know about you, but my idea of heaven definitely involves George Clooney. The premise of this Nespresso Coffee commercial is that he dies and goes to heaven, where John Malkovich (??) offers to let him go back to earth — in exchange for his Nespresso Machine. Clooney refuses, and the entire rest of the commercial consists of Clooney and Malkovich sitting on a white couch, and improvising about heaven.
Ladies In Japan Are Really Into The Ajinomoto Stadium
This commercial could maybe be considered borderline offensive if it wasn’t so silly. A young, college-aged guy moves to a new town full of beautiful women — but is horrified to discover they all have really, really low voices. It’s a sexist premise, but you can’t help but laugh when he walks by an all-girls choir. (In the end, it turns out they’ve all lost their voices from shouting at soccer matches at Tokyo’s Ajinomoto Stadium.)
McDonald’s Can Cure All In India
You won’t understand a word of this commercial if you don’t speak Hindi, but luckily it’s pretty self-explanatory: a man is sick and the only solution is: McDonald’s! The best part is when he and his wife walk into the restaurant and his wife tells him to immediately go grab a table while she orders. It’s a small detail, but sort of sweetly universal! (The barely distinguishable “I’m loving it!” at the end is pretty funny, too.)
Closeted French Boys Love French Fries In (Where Else?) France
A young teen guy is talking on his cell at McDonald’s, telling his boyfriend how he can’t wait until they see each other again. Then, he hangs up, and his Dad comes over to the table with the food. “It’s too bad your school is all boys,” Dad tells Son. “You could be quite the ladies man!” The kid gives him a sort of weird look, and then — END OF COMMERCIAL. Oooo….kay?? McDonald’s: where you can safely be closeted with your parents. And eat fries.
There Are Better Fabric Softeners In Spain
This commercial starts out like many other Fabric Softner commercials: a fluffy stuffed bear is extolling the virtues of his product. But then, as he falls back onto a pile of towels, he breaks his arm and has to be taken away in an ambulance. “Should have used Comfort!” the smokin-hot EMT tells the woman doing laundry!
You Can’t Cheat On Tests In China
Maybe the most adorable little kid I’ve ever seen is taking a test in school. He slyly looks at his sleeve, where in blue ink someone has written “Good luck!! Love, Mom.” The kid claps his head in horror — cut to, a row of freshly cleaned laundry. (Get it? He’d written out all the test answers, but his mom found them and washed them out!)
People In Turkey Like A Really Close Shave
A guy tries to light a match on his face but he can’t — he got too clean of a shave, using Gillette. So the hot girl he’s with lights it with her underarm stubble, instead. Classy.
Ben Stiller Selling Soda In Japan
Did you know that Ben Stiller is completely fluent in Japanese? Actually, he’s not, which makes watching him in this dubbed commercial for Japanese soda bizzarely hilarious.
