Can’t wait till next week to get your Pretty Little Liars fix? A chat with the creator of the fab fivesome – Hannah, Aria, Emily, Spencer and Allison – Sara Shepard is sure to hold you over. And did you Sara also wrote The Lying Game series? Seriously too cool for words.
She didn’t tell us who A is (I’m betting on Mona!) finally, but told us about the scariest New York City apartment she’s been in, her inspiration for Aria’s character and of course, her accordion.
Check out her answers to our famous Big Gurl Ten!
1. What’s your worst date story?
I dated a guy when I was a sophomore in college who invited me to his apartment so he could cook me dinner. The dinner itself was lovely (vegetarian something-or-other), but he lived in the scariest neighborhood in NYC you could imagine. It had the hugest bugs, and the whole time I was there, some girl named Amanda kept calling over and over and leaving angry messages on his machine. It turned out she was his girlfriend!
2. If you could only have one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Probably Dairy Queen. Or maybe Pinkberry. I’m really into cold, swirly, dairy stuff.
3. Whose phone number do you wish you had?
I wish I had a phone number that could allow me to speak to my past self. It would be interesting, I think, to talk to Sara at 16. Not to, like, warn her about what her life was going to be like or not to make this decision or that decision, but just to see what was going through my head. It would be even more fascinating to listen in on conversations between me and friends and boyfriends.
4. What’s something you’ve always wanted that you’ve never gotten?
A surprise party. Doesn’t that sound fun?
5. What’s your secret nickname?
For the longest time my family called me Pud. Yes, I know now it’s also a slang term for a male body part. But I didn’t at the time. I guess they didn’t either.
6. What’s the guiltiest pleasure on your iPod?
Chick-lit audiobooks, especially ones by Lauren Wiesberger.
7. Best advice you ever got?
This too shall pass.
8. Favorite bargain purchase?
I once bought an accordion for $50. I once also bought a surfboard for $50. And we got our dog, Volvo, for free–he worked out great!
9. Instant pick me up?
Running. Even though there are many times I don’t want to do it!
10. Describe the high school you in 3 words.
Aria Montgomery. (I didn’t have an affair with my teacher, though.)
