“I find it really funny how a company can lose one of their actress’ from the pressures of an EATING DISORDER and yet still make joke about that very disease. #nice,” fumed Demi Lovato on Twitter following an episode of Shake It Up! where one character said “I could just eat you up…well, if I ate.”
While most Hollywood stars pretend that they were in the Alps instead of rehab, or blame their temper on “exhaustion” instead of a serious brattitude, Demi Lovato was more than happy to talk about her struggles. And talk. And talk and talk and talk. Since leaving treatment, D has becoming more famous for her issues than her talents!
While it’s rad that DL has the guts to be honest, do you think she just a tad too sensitive? In high school I had a friend come out of the closet, and for the next 18 months, they insisted everyone on earth was also gay and just afraid to admit it (myself included–sorry Sam, I’m still straight.)
Or, did Demi do the right thing by badgering Disney into pulling the episode off the air? Tell me if you think Demi’s rant is just one more too-PC celeb, or if people should take eating disorders more seriously. Really want to know what’s on your mind. Let me know in comments!

i find it sad that in this article they are even SUGESTING she is going over board…. this should really be changed or i will be talking to whoever made this!!!!!!! this is rude and insulting to us who are going through it to see you even bring that up!!!!!
I think its brave what Demi did, but i should put out their that, That TV episode of Shake It Up wasnt taken off the air, nor was that line edited out. I remember hearing while my sister was watching TV.
How the heck does she know that’s what they meant? Yes eating disorders aren’t funny but guess what being proud of it is unhealthy
I can’t believe that! Disney is supposed to be appropriate, and they’re making fun of eating disorders?! Boycott!
I have watched Demi since she first became famous. I was sad to hear that she was going through the tough times that she went through. I was very happy though when i heard that she was going to get help. I think she looks way healthier now that she has done better with the treatments. She has been my inspiration and rolemodel for so long. I do not think that she was over reacting with the Shake it Up episode. I am offended that some people think making fun of eating disorders is funny. It’s not, eating disorders are serious medical conditions that need to be taken seriously. I support Demi in all that she does and i am a true Lovatic. She has helped me and many others stay strong.
shake it up is the stupidest show ever.
Yes it is, Disney Channel sucks now.
True story. I miss Phil of the Future, That’s so Raven, Kim Possible, and Lizzie McGuire<3
Yeah same! I just find it crazy that people think that being stupid or dumb is funny. It’s really not a good example
Let me just say this — eating disorders are VERY SERIOUS. I’m sorry if this comment sounds like I’m on a rant, but I am very opinionated about eating disorders, seeing as I was diagnosed with one. The media has influence on the young mind. Disney is supposed to be leading an example for CHILDREN and they make comments like that! I just find that absolutely awful. An ED is not a laughing matter, nor material for a comedy. Many people who suffer from one either die or find themselves close to death. I don’t think Demi’s decision has anything to do with being “too sensitive”.
I am so with Demi, no one should take something so serious and make it a joke. Desiny is suppose to be helping build kids self esteem not tear it down.
Demi’s absolutely right. I mean, eating disorder is not a joke, it’s serious. Disney made fun of this disease, and before this, D had to left the company because she had problem to struggle with. She thought her health is more important than her carrier and that’s why she went to rehab. I really look up for her for this and she’s my role model. She should be a role model to everyone because she wasn’t afraid to ask for help when she needed it. It’s better to be healthy and living life happily than always struggling with those issues and say “Yes, I am fine, thank you.” And anyone says anything, I really do love her for being strong and make her Lovatics staying strong.
