In addition to having what has to be the best last name in the world, Jessica Quirk has a killer sense of style. She’s the fashion-forward gURL behind What I Wore, a personal style blog and now, with the release of her style recipe book What I Wore, an author. Holy fancy pants…and skirts, and capris, and jorts!
What I Wore is my favorite kind of fashion site. It’s not about following trends or what’s cool on the runways. It’s about finding your personal style and then letting it shine. You’ve got to love that.
And, Jessica might not even know this, but she’s a pretty fabulous matchmaker. Her blog is responsible for introducing me to one of the greatest loves of my life – jeggings. All the credit of pants and none of the hassle!
We had a chance to chat the other day, so I asked her the Big gURL Ten:
1. What’s your worst date story?
Hmmm… I actually have a theory that all dates are good dates because a) they are good or b) they are so bad they make a GREAT story.
2. If you could only have one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I thought about this one a lot. My key food groups are eggs, potatoes, and soft cheeses. I also like peanut butter, cheese burgers, bread (French!), and avocados. Ok, so that’s like… 7 foods. I cannot narrow down further.
3. Whose phone number do you wish you had?
I wish I had 867-5309. I know you meant, “who do you wish you could call“, but the truth is, I hate talking on the phone, so I would just like to have a cool number for myself. And when I told cashiers or other randoms (or anybody?!!?) who ask for my number, they’d think I was joking. And never call.
4. What’s something you’ve always wanted that you’ve never gotten?
I feel pretty damn grateful with what I’ve already managed in life. Rad husband, cool parents (I didn’t even have to seek that one out!), a totally awesome day “job” and a naturally optimistic outlook. These are good things. Everything else is a bonus.
5. What’s your secret nickname?
I wish I had one!! The best I ever get is “Jess”, which is more about being lazy than endearing. But can I tell you my favorite nicknames for other people/things? Anything small is a MIMI. My cat Gizmo is a good example of that. I also call him Kitty, Little Boy, Tuck, Tucker, and Gentle Mimi (weird, I know). When he is naughty I scream “GIIIIIZZZMOOOOO!!!” That’s really the only time I use his real name.
6. What’s the guiltiest pleasure on your iPod?
My running mix! It has the worst/best songs ever. Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga’s old shiz, and Kayne’s Stronger.
7. Best advice you ever got?
Oh man. You know, that’s a hard one. There’s so many little nuggets of wisdom out there, but the most valuable ones seem to come at just the right time in your life. Right now, I’m thinking Clear eyes, full heart, can’t lose.
8. Favorite bargain purchase?
Vintage alligator clutch for two bones at the Goodwill in my hometown.
9. Instant pick me up?
Husband, Gizmo, Pumpkin Spice Cardamom Latte, chat with my mom, fresh country air, bike riding, random acts of kindness, your favorite song coming on the radio right when you turn it on. Good fortune. Rhapsody in Blue. Strangers who smile.
10. Describe the high school you in 3 words.
Definitely. Not. Popular.
